Post subject: A PowerPlay? | |
|
Would the game be a little more exciting if the teams had an option to use a Powerplay.
For example, a 5 minute period when a team is allowed to bring a 19th man onto the ground.
Each team has 1 Powerplay to use at any point of the game.
Would you support this idea? _________________ On the eve of a Dynasty |

Supergoal? That's way too old and traditional. You mean the GAMECHANGER. |

nah the Gamechanger is the worst thing ive ever seen. I like the 9 point goals though, only if kicked from outside 50 _________________ On the eve of a Dynasty |

I reckon give it 5 years, and both might be a part of the game ( supergoal + powerplay ) _________________ On the eve of a Dynasty

Too much like basketball 3-pointers (which are a newfangled thing too, though not a bad one). |

Yeh and PP is from Ice-Hockey, when a team get penalised they lose a player for 2mins. The otherteam then has a 5 on 4 Powerplay.
You can have 5 on 3 powerplays sometimes.
A rare one is a 4 on 3 powerplay _________________ On the eve of a Dynasty |

What triggers the ice-hockey PP? (Wasn't Clarkson accused of watching too much ice hockey & ruining AFL?!) |

Interesting Ive never heard that. I love NHL. Specifically the San Jose Sharks.
A powerplay is triggered when a player illegally hooks (with stick), boards(hits against the board), slashes(with stick), roughs(hits a player without the puck) or trips a player. There are other things too. They have a tribunal like AFL, they have the same rules for 'checks' ( hip and shoulder ). You cant check to the head or your going to miss a couple games.
Forecheck is a strategy in Ice-Hockey that is the most similar to a Forward 50 press. Infact i would'nt be suprised if Malthouse stole the idea from NHL.
The forecheck is an ice hockey defensive play made in the offensive zone with the objective of applying pressure to the opposing team to regain control of the puck. The idea is to keep the puck inside their attacking Blue Line, like our forward 50. _________________ On the eve of a Dynasty |

Pretty much, unless your loosing late in the game you can pull your goalie ( empty-net ) and play 6 on 5. _________________ On the eve of a Dynasty |

On basketball 3-pointers:
"The 3-point line's first use in a professional league was back in 1961 in the American Basketball League. The ABL only lasted 1 ½ seasons before folding, so the 3-pointer quickly went away.
The NBA, which had been around since 1946, never seriously considered it at that point. But when a new league competing against the NBA was dreamed up in the mid-1960s, the 3-point shot was back in the spotlight.
The ABA, which started in 1967, differed from the NBA in its experimentation of fan-friendly ideas. They had a red, white and blue basketball, a slam dunk contest, and of course, the 3-point shot.
...
In 1976, the ABA and NBA merged, with four teams joining the NBA... The 3-point shot, at first, wasn't part of the package.
The NBA stayed firm in the game's traditions. The league didn't adopt the 3-pointer until 1979... While certain college basketball conferences experimented with it in the early '80s, the NCAA didn't universally implement a 3-point line until 1986, with high school basketball following suit a year later."

K, without a doubt it made the game better and more exciting to watch. It was around that time that NBA really started to explode in interest.
Everyone adults, kids etc were taking shots and screaming ( from downtown )
Would Larry Bird have been as influential without the 3-point rule.
If we had the SuperGoal rule players like Franklin and Rocca would be even more important _________________ On the eve of a Dynasty |
