Henry gets Roy, caught behind!
Let me say, totally objectively, that that innings from Jason Roy was "f***ing embarrassing".
It really was. So much luck, so many plays and misses. The luck of that first-ball non-dismissal.
England 1/28 (5.4).
M. Taylor: "He could have gone first ball."
Hmm...
The broadcast shows Aleem Dar on the boundary. Was it just to get the batsman to wait whil they checked the catch?

Mate, review it. It's probably a mistake - there's just a small chunk of wood taken from where the ball passed the bat - it could have been the wind. |

It looked to me the over before that Roy was signalling to the umpire for a wide.
If you don't stamp out the behaviour, it just gets worse.
--------------------------
Root comes down the pitch and gets off the mark.
Then Henry beats Bairstow.
Clarke: "How has he not edged that?!" |

Boult is leaking a few boundaries.
But Henry bowls a maiden.
------------------------------
England 1/39 (10).
And CdG comes on to bowl.
I. Smith wants Latham to stand up to the stumps.
And Bairstow pops the drive up a bit, but it doesn't carry to Williamson at mid-off.
Dropped c&b.
Ouch. It deflected up from palms to midriff and then down to ground.
Clarke: "The height was good as well. ... Exactly where you want it asa bowler."

In the 12th over, the broadcast predictor says NZ 17%, England 83%.
3 maidens in a row.
It could have been so much better, though.
Baz M. thinks Henry, who has bowled 6, should be kept on.
Baz: "You've still got CdG up your sleeve. You've still got Jimmy Neesham up your sleeve. ... Knock over one of these and all of a sudden 240 seems a long long way away."
England 1/42 (13).
Odds: England 72%, NZ 28%.
----------------------------------
And Henry does continue.
Bairstow gets a 4 off an over-pitched ball...
Nasser: "Went for the magic ball."
And inside edges the next ball for 4. Luck going Bairstow's way.
1/51 (14). |

Ferguson on to bowl the 16th over.
........................
CdG bowls. Appeal for LBW. Not out. They don't review. It was going down the legside.
Next ball, Root slogs.
Isa Guha: "Very uncharacteristic from Joe Root."

And next ball Root is out caught behind! 7 (30).
England 2/59 (16.3).
Root was frustrated and played a Roy shot, before getting out the next ball. NZ get some reward for fine bowling. If these are CdG/Neesham conditions, then suddenly NZ have 5 bowlers.

7 from 30. Interesting pitch for batting, now. |

Flat-track bully Morgan is in.
Odds: England 66%, NZ 34%.
M. Taylor: "You can see the pressure's there. The pitch is doing a bit."
Isa: "That will send a shudder through the England dressing room."
Yep, especially because Root is the one batsman with Test technique.
...........................................
Morgan off the mark & comes back for a quick 2. The throw was wide of Latham.
Half-appeal. Not out.
Ganguly: "What worries me is how he plays the length deliveries. ... Exposes all three stumps." |

Next over, the 19th, Morgan hoicks CdG and it's just out of reach of Williamson in the deep.
And beaten next ball.
The broadcast predictor says NZ 24%, England 76%.
Odds: England 62%, NZ 28%. |

And yet another batsman goes 4 and out! Bairstow chops on!
England 3/71 (19.3). Stokes in.
That was the third or fourth time Bairstow produced an inside edge and his luck ran out. Dropped on 18, he was out for 36.
The pressure mounts on England!
The broadcast predictor now says NZ 40%, England 60%. |

Ganguly on Ferguson: "He's got to make it fuller."
Root and Roy on the balcony both have arms crossed. Roy looks sulky. Root has sunglasses on.
CdG from around the wicket beats Stokes.
Should Latham stand up, like they wanted?
And on cue Athers calls for it too. Athers says Latham keeps looking at Williamson, who's telling him not to. No change, Clarke advises. They are beating the outside edge already. |

And the money is now with NZ!
Odds: England 47%, NZ 53%.
Ferguson goes for the bouncer. What's happening? Dharmasena just wants to make sure Morgan's okay. Duty of care.
Replays show it glancing off his helmet. Good stuff, Lachie.
Another bouncer, but overcooks it. It's over Latham's head and down to the boundary. 5 wides. Ouch.
Now around the wicket. That's a packed off-side field. |

Clarke: "This is a great example of partnership bowling."
But Stokes skips down and swats legside for 4.
A helmet is run on to the pitch. Latham standing up finally!
Clarke thinks Ross Taylor now needs to move from 3rd or 4th slip to regulation 1st slip.
Clarke: "Brilliant bowling." He's using the word "brilliant" a lot. |
