Warner carried his bat again, last night, for Hyderabad, making another 70-odd not out. Punjab got over his team with a couple of balls to spare but, without him, Hyderabad's score wouldn't have been competitive. He now has a century and 3 50s from 6 innings and is the leading run-scorer in the IPL in 2019 by a considerable margin.

Of the Australians in the IPL, Warner has 349 runs at 87.25, Smith has 159 at 53, Lynn has 130 at 26, Watson has 88 at 17.6 and Stoinis has 74 at 74 (from 3 knocks, with a top score of 31*). The only player in the entire IPL who would get picked ahead of Warner on form would be Andre Russell - he has 207 runs at 103.5 and at the ridiculous strike rate of 269. I don't know how Russell will go on bigger grounds but if he playes anywhere that has short boundaries, he's the most damaging short-form batsman on the planet, at the moment.

I cannot even begin to imagine how one could advocate selecting Marsh ahead of Khawaja on form. I'm not persuaded by Stoinis or Short, either - but at least that doesn't strike me as fundamentally misconceived.
