This is a waste of a team spot in the WC.

Didn't they earn their spot ?

Yes, of course they qualified. But you have a responsibility to the game and your country not to waste what you have qualified for.

This is just a disgrace. It's not about playing badly. It's about not trying. It's about being ridiculously undisciplined off field. It's about being torn apart by politics, claims and counterclaims.

Afghanistan's World Cup of self-inflicted chaos

http://www.espncricinfo.com/story/_/id/26981939/afghanistan-world-cup-self-inflicted-chaos

"Don't do this, Afghanistan. There is another way.

There are alternatives to letting chaos overwhelm you. There are brighter timelines, waiting to be seized, in which dysfunction does not define your World Cup. ... You can be better. You should at least try."

3 wicket in 7 balls.

Too little too late for Afghanistan.

England 5/362 (47.4).

Stokes is bowled. But the recalled Moeen has two 6s already in his five balls.
...

Moeen now has four 6s and a 4. Sigh...

We can only hope for the sake of cricket that they don't score over 400. What a disgrace.

Well, that was close. Sad

Dream alive: Stoinis proves fitness to retain World Cup spot

https://www.theage.com.au/sport/cricket/dream-alive-stoinis-proves-fitness-to-retain-world-cup-spot-20190617-p51yn1.html

[The article talks about other players too.

On Warner: '... Steve Waugh maintains this could be a "daunting" prospect for opponents because the robust left-hander "hasn’t yet taken the Ferrari for a spin on the freeway".']

Afghanistan 1/34 (7).

cricinfo forecasts Afghanistan an 11% chance, which is 11% more than the bookies think -- they aren't taking bets any more.

..............................

2/75 (17). Drinks.

Of Zazai's omission from the team, cricinfo says: "Some quirky picks from Afghanistan, as ever".

Afghanistan 3/124 (29.5).

Hashmatullah just got hit in the helmet.

They should at least aim to bat out the overs and just set themselves some target they think they might get if they bat well. Maybe 250.

Afghanistan 3/196 (40).

It looks like they'll bat out the 50 overs and get their highest score of this tournament. The game will probably set a new record for the most 6s in a WC game. (It was tied some time ago in this innings.) Pity the bowlers... though they don't have to bowl slow full tosses and long hops.

Nabi hit the 32nd 6 of the match, a new record.

How can anyone think these batting conditions are good for cricket?
That's more than five overs full of 6s. Shocked
It just devalues 6s.

Afghanistan 8/247 (50). Loss by 150 runs.

Okay, so they did it, sort of...
