Can someone explain why we have this rule? Is it because of risk of injury or is it because it prevents a player from getting up and playing on? I’ve seen so many where players fall forward taking the tackler with them then awarded a free. It’s a rule I think needs reviewing because too many are milking it and getting rewarded when seemingly the impact is quite insignificant. It’s a contact sport. Players get whacked in the back taking marks, when shoved to the ground, and in many other ways. [/code]

If it wasn’t a rule, there would be a broken back and a paraplegic within two minutes of play.

I'm more concerned about the removal of the hands in the back rule in marking contests.
Looks like more ruck lottery frees coming our way against us in 2019.
