Just reviewing some stats. Before this weekend ( round 8 ) we were ranked last in scoring accuracy.
However, we were ranked first for goals within 20 metres of goal line.
Thankfully, the 6 6 6 rules have still allowed us to capitalise on our deep forward entries ( we very good in this area last year too )
I imagine that DeGoeys problem stems from the little man sitting on his shoulder reminding him that he’s getting worse as every round rolls on.
There’s no easy fix. The upcoming bye might yet be the perfect solution to his problems. A bit of time away from being reminded of it week in, week out. |

| Alternatively, maybe he should have a few games at CHB or in the ruck? That's what the folk on here used to suggest about our last gun forward when he struggled for accuracy. Sometimes the stupidest remedies are the most persistent. |

Scoring Accuracy is just the ratio of goals to behinds; therefore doesn't include OOF or shots that don't make the distance, or get touched on the line. Matty Richardson used to be the classic example, his Accuracy % was alright (almost 60) without the OOFs. Also SA on a team level may include rushed behinds, depending where you're looking
Anyway back to De Goey, his problem is set shots which he loves to rush. That was ok when he was getting most of them
The good thing is we have the 2nd-best offence (PF) behind Geelong, and the 4th best defence (PA). Plus I50s are good. So that gives us some margin for error on the goalkicking typically

Couldn't possibly be:
* 15 second warning/30 second 'shot clock'
* Players running their guts out all game
* The 'modern' football player being more of an athlete
* The demise of the traditional full forward
* Constant tinkering with the rules
No, must be 'fear of failure' (like that never existed before)

Goal kicking accuracy will always remain the imperfect science for a number of reasons. Some of those reasons have been around for a 100 years and other theories are relatively new.
What all clubs are trying to do, is to develop systems and strategies that allow shots on goal to be taken from preferred positions on the ground ( either the corridor or from a deeper entry ) The best way to improve goal kicking accuracy is to have the shot from a more “ gettable “ position in the first place.
The stat that shows Collingwood leads the comp for the most goals from inside 20 metres from the goal line is relevant ( kinda ) in that we are more successful at either receiving the ball out the back or having a more successful deeper entry than all the other clubs. This is something all clubs are striving for and it’s a stat you would much rather be leading than trailing the pack. |
