I think the centre bounce to (re)start play needs to go. How often do we see the ball deviate to the advantage of one ruckman over another. It's either too high or not high enough and the scumps are clearly not skilled enough to do it properly anyway. It's any wonder our mids can't read Grundy's taps. I really don't care if it's an age old tradition, it needs to go. The afl keep banging on about fairness and equality then the ball should be thrown up. That way everyone gets a fair crack at it and the game moves faster. Thoughts?

+ 1

The other one I’m big on is, if it hits the post, then the score is determined by which side of the goal post it goes through.
The video reviews are useless in determining if it’s touched the post, so just give the outcome according to which side of the goal post it sailed through.
And If it hits the goal post and comes back into play, then it’s a point.

Can I add in any thoughts on that one too ?

I think the technology is good enough for determining if it touched the post. They have Snicko (re-named) for that too.

The disgraceful decision to give JJ a goal against Port last year was due entirely to AFL incompetence. Competent officials could have seen that was a point, whether it did or did not touch the post.

I enjoyed the spray Hinkley gave the AFL after that, but now I'm scared by the AFL's incompetence. What if that happens to us on the last kick of a GF?

Why not have a net behind the posts ,eliminate behinds, and lower the height the ball can go through as well by adding a cross bar.

^ Because then you'd have to punish weak teams by relegating them, and the AFL wants to reward them with draft picks, instead.

Any chance we can stick to the original post about removing the centre bounce...

Ruckmen are not in favour of removing the centre bounce. They claim throwups remove part of their skill in judging the bounce.

The main reason to remove it would be possible stress to umpires' backs over time.

What's so stupid about it? If the umps can't get it right after 100 or so years even under a closed roof at marble stadium then they never will.

What’s the option? I side line reverse toss kind of thing? A machine that can shoot the ball straight up but not trip anyone after it fires? When you think about it who ever decided to do it was surely taking the piss! I mean, yeah let’s get a wired shaped ball and try and bounce it straight on its pointy end!

They already do that after a recalled bad bounce. Is that not enough?

No one likes throw ups except umpires who want to avoid injury.

just throw it up at all times and around the ground too bouncing gives too much advantage for 1 side and a lot of times its off to the side some where

throw it up
