Think I saw the worst game by a Magpie defender today in 20 years. Tom's error count, blancmange esque closing speed and sheer inability to neutralise every contest let alone win one he was involved with, nearly cost us the game. Harsh for fans or sycophants of him? They'll say yes. But watch a replay and get your clicker count ready. With depth in our defensive ranks being at a 10 year high, Tom may want to rectify this ASAP.

Played a poor game today, but he's been consistently solid for a while that I'm not willing to be harsh on him.

Was ordinary but also very out of character on the back of his last 20 odd games, in particular. You measure players by their performances in big games and finals, not the cellar dwellers.
If he goes back to back to back, then I’ll start worrying.

I watched the game with the volume on 0. Zero bias and with a neutral closeness, and the mistakes of the players in which I can fully appreciate, well there easier to see.
We weren't good today below our knees or in a disputed ground ball. In fact I think ca rlton kept them self in the game by knowing we are having trouble in this area this season. If it wasn't for Grundy or pendels being in another stratosphere for hard ball gets and clearances we wouldn't have a win loss ratio we have today this season. We really need to be cleaner at ground level. Langdon isn't alone here but he was as swanny would say putrid today and maybe bucks is waiting to see if Tom can adapt again into another role, it won't be easy for him as I think he plays better on talls but roughy, darce and howe occupy those spots.
Interesting times at the selection table me thinks.

Absolutely. Getting out run by treacle Silvagni was abominable

Looked like he was back on his pre game bong hit ritual.

His lack of urgency and endeavour cost us the first goal in the 2018 GF, and his half-arsed arms stretched out to take that mark inside D50 today that easily got spoiled and ended in a Cripps goal after we’d dominated Carlton for 99% of the last quarter is what keeps me up at night wondering how on earth we’re gonna win a GF with this guy and players of his ilk.

I’ll admit, he’s had a solid year, and nowadays is barely noticed for his usual sleepwalking brain farts cos he’s been solid, but if this junk creeps back into his game then God help us all. Compare his game today to that of Geelong’s defence. It can’t be tolerated.

Needs a haircut and some electric shock therapy. Spatial awareness is non existent. Surely the Sac is competing for his spot?

Yeah was very bad today, lost count of the amount of times I cursed him today, even swore a few times which I try not to when at the footy. Hardly any intercept marks but countless mistakes and a few that cost goals.

Wouldn’t want to play like that next week.

That mark that he allowed to get spoiled by Silvagni, because the didn't take it out in front with the hands, was unforgivable. That's stuff you learn in grade 3.
Bucks, you can do all the meditation you like, but Langers will do your head in every time. Phillips isn't far behind either. Pick the ball up man and kick the goal. It's not soccer. You can use your hands, especially when there is no one around you.

It's really bizarre. All players make mistakes, however when Tom does, they invariably result in goals. Yes, he is a defender however the general "vagueness and oomphless" efforts like today make me concerned. Not room for him and Scharenberg (if and when he returns)

Yup. Wasn't the only one to do some dumb stuff today. He was also put under the pump by his teammates more than once, leading directly to some of his errors
