We’ve dropped form and lost players to injury and are now in the invidious position of playing a second game in succession off a 6-day break - and after two games in a row on the hard Docklands ground. I don’t understand why the AFL thought that was fair scheduling after the bye. Anyway, I would have expected Collingwood to lose this second game, irrespective of our form and the opposition. Hoping for a turnaround, of course.

I'm beginning to think that we've been suffering from a GF hangover, given the lower levels of energy, dare, desperation and drive hanging over the team for much of the season !!

Given the savage cruelty of defeat in the last minutes of the GF last year, I am actually wondering if the team has fully recovered mentally from that. It would take almost super-human resilience to put that grief and hurt behind them and bring the same levels of gut-wrenching, win at all costs determination to the game.

A few of us have already suggested some team changes in the post-game thread. However, who ever takes the field this week, it would be great to see them do so with renewed passion, joy in simply playing the game, belief, aggression, determination and unbeatable will to win. Not asking much is it?? Wink

I disagree it will be an ugly scrap and if we have any ticker we should get over them. There not the side they once were but Breust always seems to kill us.

We could be 14-0 and winning games by 300 points and still we'd struggle against the Hawks.

With our current form and injuries, I doubt we can win.

Our depth has been exposed as fraudulent. Our injuries means we are playing guys who are barely AFL standard (like Daicos) and / or playing guys out of desperation (like Shazza).

1 of 2 things will Happen:

1: We keep playing this Crap Footy and Hawks Flog Us

OR

2: We take it as a Massive Kick up the Ass and we Come out Breathing Fire and we Flog them

I have no faith, we just fell to pieces agaisnt a side we do well against and on our best ground of the last 3 years. Something is wrong at Collingwood right now

As I said in the game thread, injuries have caught us. Those players that picked up the slack last year (Brody, Jaydn, Sier at.al) have not done the same this year for various reasons.

In a close season like this, won't take dropping many to find not only top four slipping but even top eight.

What ever the cause of malaise this season they need to work on it quick smart or we may find ourselves planning for 2020 before we know it.

If we can't find a way to beat the likes of West Coast - is thier any point making the top four????

Out
Brown daicos and thomas
In
Aish crocker and iq.
Midfield
Crisp maynard pendles treloar jdg.
Wings
Varcoe and Phillips
Move forward
Sidey crocker
We must go in with a much stronger ( physically ) midfield.
Sidey in the midfield is not working.
When he starts getting kicks then the opposition starts to tag
and instantly his value goes way down.

can't dispute that the stevo situation and injuries to our depth has killed us, to think back when we played Port we looked very dangerous across most lines. Our Midfielders have got to get there hands dirty again.

I would be surprised if this were true. They are professionals and I assume the Club would effectively manage this type of disappointment. Besides, in some way, that GF feels like a very long time ago.

If anything, the pain of the loss should drive them to go one better and redeem themselves

^ Fair enough swooper. I am just struggling to find reasons for our almost lack lustre attitude. Confused I hope you're right in that the club and coaches have managed the huge disappointment of last year's GF defeat.

I just watched Carlton's win over Freo. It was exciting - just like watching us at times last season! They were underdogs, backs against the wall, nothing to lose really and they just went for it!

Maybe that's our problem? Being weighed down by the expectations that come from being in the GF and the extended expectations this creates amongst the media and the supporters. We've lost our our flair, we're playing safe and measured footy. I asked during the game thread why we are going down the boundary so much these days instead of through the middle of the ground. Afraid of stuffing up I guess.

We've always played better as the under dogs, being far more willing to take risks and work like hell for the unexpected win. Geez, I hope we can some how find that attitude again ie play like we have nothing to lose. Stuff the top 4, just play!!!!. Wink

Think there be two certain non starters in Reid and Sier and if Aish can’t return due to the tight hammie

Takes three off the table so who is not injured nor TBC

Broomhead
Crocker
Appleby
Lynch
Noble
