Im loving this on 3AW
Deano is ripping into Damian Martyn....lol Martyn replaced Deano in the team and Deano goes 12 years on what has he done.....lol How long do we have to give him ?? He has only scored over 2,000 runs classics
Go Deano
Now he has ripped into the selection of Bracken and Lee as well as Simon Cook when he played for NSW. It is only because Waugh and Tubby saw them bowl more often
WE LOVE YOU DEANO CAUSE YOU'RE A VICTORIAN!!!!!!!!!

I love Deano, too, because he was a great cricketer, not because of which state he represents. _________________ Donny.

Deano is on fire
"i ask you this if Simon Katich stayed in WA would he be playing for Australia?"
Deano did mention that he thinks Katich is talented.

Pressure is on Martyn to produce
Robert Craddock

PRESSURE is mounting by the day for Damien Martyn to make more of a mark as Australia's longest-serving batsman.
Martyn is used to living his cricketing life in the shadows but he has suddenly become one of the most talked-about players in Australia.
In the past few days it seems no chat between two Australian cricket fans can be finished without a word about Martyn's form.
He is by no means in a form trough. But people are frustrated by him. They want more from him.
The perception is that he has been cruising and just doing enough to stay afloat at international level without proving a match winner.
Martyn's mates say he has never been one to seek responsibility, but it is time he lifted a gear.
His second-innings dismissal in Sydney on Tuesday, where he bunted a return catch back to Anil Kumble, and his limp first-baller yesterday, when he pulled a short ball from Ajit Agarkar to fine leg, have accentuated the frustration.
It was a bad day to have a bad day.
Statistically, it is unfair to fire too many bullets at Martyn.
His average since becoming Australia's No. 4 batsman has floated in the low-to-mid 40s, roughly the same as the man he replaced, Mark Waugh.
And his one-day figures during the past year -- with an average of 58 and a strike rate of 82 -- are top drawer.
You can also defend him by saying that in any other era his Test record of 2339 runs at 45.86 would have made him one of the best players in the side.
Until he and Justin Langer arrived, West Australia had never had a Test batsman average more than 41.
But statistics have never meant everything to the national selectors -- ask Steve Waugh, Dean Jones and Michael Slater.
Jones and Slater were shown the door as Test players with comparable or superior records to Martyn.
Jones was dropped after averaging 55 on a tour of Sri Lanka in 1992 and never played another Test.
Slater had scored 14 Test centuries with an average of 42.84 when his career was terminated.
Earlier this year, many observers felt it simply would not be possible for the selectors to urge Steve Waugh to think about retiring when he was averaging more than 100 for the year in Tests.
But they did anyway. _________________ The Torres bounce is officially dead. You are walking alone now Fernando. |

Methinks one Dean Mervyn Jones has the gig lined up as the new Neil Harvey.
You know; the media's go-to man for a cranky sound-bite; Mr Renta-quote. Sounds harsh but he's heading that way. Rather a shame because occaisionally he says something worthwhile albeit likely to be buried amongst the tripe.
Perhaps he should reflect a bit on his own career and behavior before sailing forth. _________________ he's an animal, what can u expect!!! |

Deano Jones is good because he doesn't give the standard boring answers to questions when asked. Martyn is the most experienced player in the team since Waugh has left and it isnt asking too much for him to perform. Martyn hasnt scored a hundred for a while and has had plenty of innings in which to do so.
The tour of Sri Lanka will spell the beginning of the end for Martyn if he doesnt improve.
Brad Hogg should also enjoy being in the one day squad for the next few games as well as he will be dropped.

Years ago i was a strong advocate for Martyn's re-inclusion back into the test team after his long stint in the wilderness. But i'm afraid the time has come to send him back to nature. We can't carry blokes when we are struggling to tie a series, let alone win it. He has served his purpose. Don't let the door hit you on the ass on the way out.

Proto, you really are talking out of yr rear end!!!
Some of you Dean Jones lovers do fail to remember someone who was just as fond of him as you lot.
"Sir" Richard used to say grace at the top of his run-up when Jones took guard.
For what he was about to receive, he was truly grateful!! Don't also forget that Deano's personal defects help write his own death warrant.
You can live with a dickhead as long as he's still deserving of a spot. His future was v finite and with Border gone, his fan club in the elite level could have held it's AGM in a phone booth. _________________ he's an animal, what can u expect!!! |

Jones only poor season was '87/88 vs. Hadlee inspired Kiwis.
His omission from the Aussie XI in '92/93 was based on popularity, not form, sounds accurate. But since when should popularity hold sway over form, after he lead the batting average on the previous tour of Sri Lanka? We ONLY JUST lost that series to WI, and i would bet my life DJ would have won it for us. Who could forget Border throwing ball against wall in stand in adelaide when McDermott got given out caught behind off his friggin' helmet! That swung the result in a split-second!
And the collective IQ of the Australian selection panel at that time was only worth about the small change one would find inside a phone booth.
And John Benaud is THE biggest ass-wipe to ever select for this country!

It isnt a popularity contest.........this isnt a Miss Australia beauty pagent we are talking about.
Some of the players in the current team have received far more chances than Dean Jones ever received. I can only imagine what would happen to Damian Martyn if he has to face Hadlee in his prime. Imagine if Damian had to face Ambrose at his prime........thats a scary thought. The fact is the Dean Jones era contained a higher level of faster bowler compared to todays era.

Ah JLC, hate to rain on your parade but Damien Martyn DID make his debut against an Ambrose led Windies attack in the 92-93 series.
Seem to remember he performed more than respectably with his one hickup being that of missing the Adelaide Test (giving Langer his debut) due to the blundering stupidity of Australian cricket's sacred cow, Robert Baddeley Simpson.
Do agree that Deano's era certainly eclipsed whats trundling nowadays but let's not beat about the bush. Deano's career consisted of some admirable heroics such as the Madras 200 and the Adelaide double ton v Windies alongwith some pretty egregious failures.
Please don't paint him as anything other than what he was; a very good but not great intl batsman at Test level who was arguably more consistently effective in limited overs. _________________ he's an animal, what can u expect!!! |

wombat, please don't make me ask donny for Deano's test average, as i'm pretty confident it begins with a 5... before he was "retired".
