There's also been a lot of talk about Sam Fowler from our VFL team being selected. _________________ A Goal Saved Is 2 Goals Earned! |

Based on my ladder predictor, and the clubs with potential spots (which will surely change) we could have pick 3 or 4. _________________ It's never as good/nor bad as it seems... |

Need to finish 16th - cant imagine we could tank to 17th given North and the Eagles. _________________ Buon Giorno |

CARLTON coach Michael Voss believes his son Casey "deserves" an AFL shot, but it won't be with the Blues.
The 21-year-old looms as a possible NAB AFL Mid-Season Rookie Draft selection after he was best afield for South Australia in a state game against Western Australia over the weekend. |
DEFENDER/MID, 182CM, 21YO.
Achievements: 2022 Fos Williams Medallist, 2022 State Team, 2021 P.T. Morton Medal, 2021 The Advertiser SANFL Team of the Year, 2020 Len Fitzgerald Most Improved Player Award, 2019 Josh Deegan Medal.
Is he ready for AFL? Can he win a hardball? Is his disposal good enough? At 182cm, is not tall enough to play key positions. Same height as Josh Daicos. _________________ A Goal Saved Is 2 Goals Earned! |

Might be worth noting, Twomey believes this MSD is a little weaker than previous years. Point being, there’s no value in investing if you don’t think there’s a return coming back. Will still likely pick one player but even if we do find ourselves in a position to pick another, we may yet baulk at that opportunity. |

Stands to reason, goes back to one of your earlier posts re the current crop of youth having missed a season of football and are largely underdone. _________________ "The Club's not Jock, Ted and Gerry" (& Eddie)

Just grab Lauchie Tardrew and I’ll be very happy with that selection. _________________ Don't confuse your current path with your final destination. Just because it's dark and stormy now doesn't meant that you aren't headed for glorious sunshine! |

Madgen is 4-6 weeks.
So the club has a decision to make on Wilson (Back injury), who may not be able to return to play until next year. But the club is taking it week by week, meaning he could return sometime late in the year.
And Krueger, who could actually return to play in the final 2 rounds.
It may depend on which other clubs below us on the ladder activate a selection. The club will know who we want, wether it be a VFL listed player or someone else.
Does the club want a player they can bank on going into 2023, or do they want someone that can fill a gap for 6 months? _________________ A Goal Saved Is 2 Goals Earned! |

That’s a really good point and it occupied part of Twomeys podcast as per what I posted above. The trend ( albeit a small sample ) is clubs who are participating regularly in the MSD are making decisions more for the future than the now. There’s also a desire to get in early on a kid who is in the middle of a good season, before the gets to the 2022 N D ( as long as he had also nominated in the 2021 N D ) Given we aren’t likely to be playing finals in 2022, you would think we would select someone who has further improvement and development in them, rather than any quick fix who has already maxed out his capabilities. |

Any of these guys tall and and feedback on how the 19 year olds went in the Colgate young guns series? There were some good tall prospects in there. |
Stui, most of those players granted exemptions in the link are big units ( there’s a few around 195 + ) They didn’t play in the young guns game because they didn’t qualify according to the required criteria.
Players don’t normally nominate for these drafts unless a club has said we’ve got a solid interest in you, so there’s every chance one of those listed may be on Collingwoods radar. As for which one, that’s hard to know.
In the young guns match, all eyes were on Jake Culley and Max Ramsden who have both already nominated for the MSD. Culley in particular, tore it up as a tall midfielder on the day and Ramsden was solid too.
I would think both go in the top four selections and that’s probably just outside our reach ( along with small defender Dambrosio ( ? ) who also starred in that game ) As for the Pies, I wouldn’t be totally surprised if our first selection comes from that batch listed in your link above, as long as the club rate them of course. |

Cheers mate,
I'm of the view that unless it's desperate we don't go to the MSD to fill an immediate need but rather pick for the future and try to get a player we would have otherwise hoped to draft or rookie at the end of season draft.
Free hit and you get a few months of development into them early _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

I think take the best available player 22 and under. We took 2 talls last year, and took Dean and McMahon with late picks the last 2 years, so I would rather us target a Small Forward or a midfielder.
A lot of good small forwards come out of nowhere, Papley was rookie draft, Eddie Betts was pre-season draft, and we even missed out on Stengle last year. _________________ "That was out-of-bounds" |

Quote: | 3. Wade Derksen
A late bloomer, Derksen has grown a ridiculous 12cm over the past two years and now stands at 197cm. The 20-year-old Derksen is emerging as one of the WAFL's premier key forwards and, alongside Fremantle 2021 first round choice Jye Amiss, has been impressive. Spending the past two seasons in the VFL and playing just one game with Essendon and another with Greater Western Sydney last year, Derksen has found a new level to his play this season and emerged as a draft prospect over the early rounds. A strong marking key forward, Derksen is a good leaper and fluid mover who hits the scoreboard and can provide relieving ruck minutes as needed. |
