If its worse cast for Kreuger and he sits out the remainder of the year, does this open up a draft pick for us in the MSD?

The AFL has locked in the event to be staged between rounds 11 and 12. Thats 5 weeks away.

Noble is always a hot debate around here, but as a MSD pick, I would say has been a success. Begg and Johnson were taken when injured as long term prospects. Both of those guys have come with a fair bit of excitement, but are yet to taste AFL action.

Looking round the state leagues, all are still in the early rounds. And many of the leading goal scorers are 29-30 or older.

Sebit Kuek could be one to keep an eye on as a 195cm 21 year old. But does he stand up to AFL level? https://wafl.com.au/player/sebit-kuek

In SA, Jacob Bauer could be one to watch there. 191cm, 20year old. Ten goals in 2 games. Again can he do it at AFL level? https://sanfl.com.au/league/clubs/north-adelaide/1021152?league=sanfl&season=2022

But maybe we go for a mature age player, 26 or 27, thats kicking them at state level? Or do we forget the KPF and just take best available?

The SANFL stats: https://sanfl.com.au/league/player-stats/?season=2022&league=sanfl&stat=goals

To be honest, its now time for Will Kelly to step up. I rated him and liked the look of him. Out of all the potential young and up comers, its Will Kelly that should be given a stint of 3 or 4 games in a row to prove himself. I read somewhere that he was highly thought of internally...... Will Kelly come on down !!!!

I would love to get a couple mid season picks on 2 x mid twenties key forwards!

Does this mean we have to tank for the next 5 rounds Laughing Very Happy

I liked Will Kelly early. I saw him taking marks inside 50. It was encouraging. His kicking isnt great. This could be why he's been tried at FB in the VFL.

I've also heard that his interest has dropped and that his form has been poor in the VFL this year. Judging by his actions at the open training, I'd say this isnt true. He looked very happy to be there.

What he needs is a clear run without injuries.

Unrelated, but I still think we should have gone for Jake Kelly as a FA last year.

There are plenty of players in the VFL, SANFL & WAFL that are more than capable of playing in the AFL.

Mihocek is a perfect example.

Gee, I like Krueger, but how easy his shoulder went is a concern.... Lee Walker MK2?
It's obvious why Geelong let him go. A real shame, he's got talent, but you can't fire a canon out of a canoe.

Max Ramsden:

Has been in the best for the Dragons on their past 3 wins.

The key to any selections in the mid year draft is that all mid season nominations need to have also nominated for the 2021 national draft.
As per the Max Ramadan article, he is at least eligible under the current rules for mid season draft selection.

Re Noble - he has been a howling success as a mid year draft pick. There aren’t many players at all from these drafts who go on to play more than fifty games during their time on an AFL list. Noble continues to improve too, so there’s no reason to think he hasn’t got another 50 in him.

Ramsden sounds like a good option. I wonder how far down our pick will be?

Collingwood VFL player Lachlan Tardrew has been mentioned as a chance for the MSD, by those over at ESPN.

I think it is based on ladder position at the time of draft

Correct- that’s why they do it before the bye so everyone has played everybody else

Collingwood has officially placed Krueger on the long term injury list after his shoulder reco. This means we are now eligible and extremely likely to take part in the mid season draft. Interestingly, there are only a handful of clubs who currently officially candidates to participate in the mid year draft ( this can change very quickly as all clubs injury tolls grow ) and all those eligible clubs sit above us on the ladder.
Point being, not only will we participate but right now we are on track to be at the very pointy end of that draft.
Watch this space.
