Quote: | Background:
A bloke who has really come out of nowhere. Pendlebury’s main focus had been on basketball for the last few years. Having taken up a scholarship in basketball with the AIS and representing Australia at junior levels, Pendlebury called it quits after a couple of weeks to see whether he could make a name for himself in the footy world – a gamble that appears will come off in this year’s National Draft.
He stepped up so quickly that he represented Vic Country in this year’s U18 championships, playing in two of the three games, as well as being a key part of Gippsland Power’s TAC Cup side this season which won the premiership. Attended the draft camp and despite not being in the top 10 for any category (barring his hand span which was one of the biggest tested), his testing results in all areas were quite good.
He looks a natural sportsman, still carries some basketball traits and looks to be learning footy still, but it is his movement, his evasiveness and ability to step around an opponent in tight space that impresses most.
His brother Kris was on Gippsland Power’s list in 2004 and played season 2005 with the Bendigo Bombers in the VFL.
Strengths:
– Agility: Can really step around opponents very easily. One of those players who has the ability to dodge tackles.
– Upside: Has only got back into footy so you’d expect some improvement still
– Good vision
– Nice left footer, but is will use his right as well.
Weaknesses:
- Fairly new to footy, how much development time does he need, what position will suit him in the AFL?
- Outside player? |

Maybe they are confident after the progress of Fanning....
Was picked at 13 in the Phantom draft for West Coast so he can't be a real roughie.. |

FFS, FORGET Roach He would have been sensational iof not for the unfortunate injuries. Poo happens to all clubs....
With ALL due respect, 'Pies supporters like you are SO damn negative and pessimistic, it becomes extremely annoying This Pennelbry kid according to better experts than you, has the potential to be a superstar rather than a hack, give him a fair go I am RAPT with Thomas and this kid with 2 and 5, I always thought that Ellis was too much of a risk with his stick insect body.....
Collingwood has done us proud I feel... |

I agree Lazza.... am happy with not getting Ellis.... he is just a toooooo much of a twig, and some people don't get that.
If he is a receiver at U18 level.... what hope does he have against men who on average would be 20 kgs heavier....
NO HOPE! |

Pennelbry is obvously a talented player - was rated pretty highly during the week. Tipped to go at number eightish by The Age this morning.
Good luck to the kid. Outside player - that's terrific - its what we require most. Bit concerned that we have let Hurn/Ellis slip, but, that's life. Wait another three years to give any major verdict.
EG, why knock him just like that? Have a look at his credentials before writing the kid off. |

Okay Johnno I will do. If he makes it in 4 years time I will come here and personally say I was wrong. |
