So far, 10 seats have changed hands - 9 to the ALP and 1 (following a 28% swing away from the Libs) to an independent.

And, with that victory, the whole of mainland Australia is governed at Federal and State/Territory level by the ALP.
Only the good people of Tasmania stand against the tide of socialism, communism. wokeism and the end of life as we know it. 
The silent majority, of course, still vote LNP. The Herald-Sun knows that. |

One-and-a-half cheers for the most conservative and consistently corrupt state Labor Party in the country for beating probably the least worst state Liberal Party – and, presumably, marginally improving the state's governance in the process. I can't say I'm particularly invested in this result, but I suppose we should enjoy the red tide while it lasts!
No doubt the casinos will be feeling a warm glow this morning too.

Pretty good summation. NSW Labor own the patent on corrupt state governments and their Liberal mob is the best of a very underwhelming bunch.
In Murray, which is the only electorate I care about, the Independent was re-elected with a large majority of the primary vote, so the people got what they wanted.
It will be interesting to see how the red wall works, the usual pattern is for the Federal government to be different to the majority of states. I guess it's up to Labor as to what they do and how they're judged.

Gorn, a new dawn. Perrotet was in a hiding to nothing ever since NSW:
Stuffed their handling of COVID by locking down the Western Suburbs and allowing the Eastern Suburbs to infect the rest of Australia;
Gladys giving her sleazebag Boyfriend inside information; and,
Too many internal stuff ups(John Barilaro anyone) including conflict of interests and perhaps to the detriment of the Liberal Party as a whole allowing the religious conservative right to start to take over

It hasn't helped that Tasmanian Labor has been in a bit of a mess of late, with Rebecca White back as leader. I am not sure if she can get them across the line or not, she's got a bit of a mess to continue to clean up.

One interesting aspect has been the surprising civility of both major parties and leaders in NSW.
No Abbott, Morrison, Barrilaro or Dutton makes the Liberals / Country Party seem almost palatable. Apart from Dutton they are part of the NSW party(s) notwithstanding the fact they are or were Federal.

There's a good chance NSW Labor won't get the majority in their own right.
They need 47 seats, they have 45 and 4 are on a knives edge, they're in front in 1 of the 4.
I read somewhere that they already have a few of the 9 independants locked away, so they would be able to form a minority government without relying on the Greens.

The Daily Mail, as has become increasingly common, is the only news site that will publish this stuff (even if only in censored form).

While I understand the desire not to amplify abuse, it is frustrating to have news outlets report on these stories but offer nothing other than a vague allusion to what was said. Maybe a link to the archived tweet and a warning about its content would suffice.

Yeah, that's where I found it. They do seem to be the only place willing to publish stuff like that, but I agree, a reputable news source should be able to reproduce unsavory quotes, stated in context, as part of informing people.
Many people would see that Latham was accused of a homophobic remark, and shrug it off, but if they got to read it, they'd have a different opinion. That was seriously poor, in fact it was a disgraceful comment.

Presuming the Liberals hang on in Ryde, Labor will need two votes from the nine independents and three Greens to pass legislation. They shouldn’t find that overly difficult: putting the three former Shooters and Fishers MPs and one former Liberal to one side, the other five independents (including one "Teal") all seem to lean progressive.
Some good news here is that the Greens and most of the independents support gambling reform and might be able to push Labor on that.
