COLLINGWOOD fan favourite Beau McCreery is set to secure a new deal at the AIA Centre ahead of schedule.
The 22-year-old isn't out of contract until the end of next year, but the Magpies are understood to be finalising a contract extension for the next three seasons. McCreery became a permanent fixture under Craig McRae last year, playing 22 of 25 games, including all three finals last September.
The South Australian has continued that rise in 2023, playing in Collingwood’s first 17 games to continue his emergence as a key cog in a well-oiled machine.
Collingwood GM of football Graham Wright had more contracts to deal with last year and was a busy man during the Trade Period, but the Magpies still need to finalise deals for John Noble, Mason Cox, Oleg Markov and make decisions on some players outside the best 23. – Josh Gabelich

Very happy if that is the case. I don’t care who it is but I would only complete contracts for a maximum of three years. _________________ I term the current Collingwood attack based strategy “Unceasing Waves” like on a stormy and windy day with rough seas. A Perfect Storm ☔️ |

I'd be signing Nick Daicos for 15 years right up. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

Give Nick a room at AIA - might make a good coach too! _________________ Jamie Elliott...you beauty

I've been a spruker of Beau McCreery on this forum for a while now after being very impressed with his speed and strength across the half forward line. Hence I'm very glad to see him get a contract extension to tie him into the next few years which will hopefully see him further develop to his full potential as a Steve Johnston type of weapon / goal kicker in the Collingwood forward line.
McCreery hasn't been hitting the scoreboard as much as I would like this season so that's an obvious area for his improvement but clearly the coaching team is pleased with his role in helping the team transition from defense with his running power and speed often providing the extra free man to enable rapid ball movement into the forward line.
The fact that McCreery has been playing further up the ground in the last few games has probably impacted his ability to hit the scoreboard but in Fly I trust to get the most value out of a super athlete with innate football ability.
McCreery is another great piece of recruiting by Derek Hines team. _________________ Collingwood Domination. Envy of the Nation! |

Boot when we signed him I investigated his SAFL career and the last finals he played in for Sth Adelaide—he was brilliant
Then I noted his last SAFL year he had best numbers for fwd fifty tackles across whole competition averaging 5 tackles per game
His 3 goals in one of the finals was exciting _________________ I'm not arguing--just explaining why i am right |

you win some, you lose some.
looking at our draft that year,
17 Ollie Henry - gone
19 Fin McCrae - still there, but rumours he is going as he can't get a game
22 Reef McInnes - still there, but unclear where he should play
30 - Caleb Poulter - gone
31 - Liam McMahon - gone
44 - Beau McCreery - still there
so whilst Beau was a good selection, the 5 earlier picks not producing much, especially as they were supposed to be exactly what we needed after getting rid of Treloar, Stephensen etc, and set us up for the future.
That being said, we are on top of the ladder., so are draft picks for 18 year olds overrated? |

Clubs like GWS and Suns are forever recruiting the best young players.
Teams like Geelong and Collingwood are allowed to plunder them, haha.
Yes, young players are important but not through our door (unless their name is Daicos) _________________ Jamie Elliott...you beauty

Over this way Mr. Ash Johnson...
Would you like a cup of tea or coffee?
Well the reason we are getting together is because you stated you wish to remain loyal to your club and extend your contract with the Collingwood Football Club before the end of the year - and we are in unanimous agreement. We would appreciate your signature on the dotted line.

Henry surely is not our fault - he never wanted to be here. |

The recruitment team (Hine) should have been able to ask the right questions at the pre-draft interviews to know where Henry's mind was at.
I suspect they did but thought he was too good to pass up at pick 17. They took a chance that they could win him over in his first two years and turn him into a long term Collingwood player. They got it wrong. _________________ Side by side. |
