Post subject: Is there any room for Noble? | |
|
Now that we know Daicos is back and Adams is out for the prelim, I expect there’ll be incentive for the selection committee to keep the rest of the lineup as stable as possible. But the fact is that a number of players were below their best against Melbourne, and it seems clear to me from what McRae’s said that it was a hard call to leave John Noble out of that game. It feels close to certain that he’s our first to come back if any other changes are required.
So will they make a second change and bring Noble in? If so, who for? Would be interested to hear people’s thoughts on what his prospects are. _________________ "Every time we witness an injustice and do not act, we train our character to be passive in its presence." – Julian Assange |

I voted yes.
I believe you need speed as the sub and Ginni doesn’t give us that! With Nobes sitting on the edges of stoppage he could create havoc for the oppo with his run and carry late in a game as everyone is tiring!
Having said that Ginni does have natural forward ability and is worth two to three goals whether he kicks himself or sets up teammates.
So the vulnerable one would be Lippa!
But…….Lippa has the big body needed in finals games just needs to “play bigger” if you know what I mean.
But I would go Nobes sub Ginni into 22 and Lippa out! _________________ Never disperse your focus unless absolutely necessary. Face one adversary at a time!

Lipinski had 5 clearances and a decent number of SI's from memory. I seriously doubt he's getting dropped for Noble, given we've already swapped a clearance midfielder for an outside runner in Naicos for Adams.
Only chance is if Markov is out and Noble is in. But Markov is needed to play against Cameron or Raynor, so I think he's in to stay. Tragic that Nobes misses out, I've been a big fan, and he's won over his haters too.
The real question is, who goes out for Adams next week if we win? But we can leave that for now... _________________ I would be ashamed to admit that I had risen from the ranks. When I rise it will be with the ranks... - Eugene Debs |

It doesn’t help that WHE slotted into the backline last week and played particularly well for us. It would take an injury or two to our running defenders for Noble to get another chance in 2023, particularly with Nick being able to play in that position also. Unfortunately, Noble is a victim of both a full list to pick from and a bit of surplus of players who can hold down half back flank.
The club will likely review their smaller defenders in the off season and possibly attempt to reinvent one of them in another position for next year.
Players like Maynard and Quaynor may be trialled elsewhere to see if we can find a gain from moving them up the ground and in the knowledge they would / could be replaced by Noble, WHE or whoever. Remember, WHE did spend his pre season working with the defenders, so it’s something we should look out for in the coming preseason. |

I said No. Nothing against Noble but with WHE down back it's out of Markov and Noble and Markov is taller and just as quick _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

Sadly no. Due to the depth of the available talent at the moment. _________________ I term the current Collingwood attack based strategy “Unceasing Waves” like on a stormy and windy day with rough seas. A Perfect Storm ☔️ |

Like him as a player unfortunately Markov is bigger and just as fast
Big bodies are needed in finals
Guess it depends on injuries/illness _________________ Carlscum 120 years being cheating scum |

Watching the 2019 Preliminary again, and although he was fresh to the AFL, the same issue kept coming up that we saw in finals last year; he can't stick the tackles he tries, and he is caught with the ball too often, leading to turnovers.
May be a good sub for his run in the second half, when the physical intensity has been tempered by tiredness _________________ "You hate a mean man, a grasping man, a man who wants everything and gives nothing. That’s Collingwood. They are a law unto themselves"

He probably suits how GWS want to play the game more than how Melbourne setup.
He's a chance and it'll likely be between him with his speed and run vs Ginni with his forward nous and spark for the sub role. _________________ He's mad. He's bad. He's MaynHARD! |

Much as it pains me I voted No. I like Noble's game a lot but Markov has more consistent disposal so he gets my vote. I dont think we would drop another midfielder for a running defender either. _________________ We've all heard that a million monkeys banging on a million typewriters will eventually reproduce the entire works of Shakespeare. For whatever it’s worth, and it may not be much, newly retired former GWS captain Phil Davis made a passing comment on SEN this morning that he expects Noble to be brought back in for this game. See below from 18:20:
