Baptism of fire for Dean. Probably not going to be a tougher debut than Giants away.

Congratulations to Charlie Dean. I am rapt for him that he has got a call up. I also think John Noble is in line for selection. I base this not on any inside information as such, but because if you go to the CFC website, the paused video has a huge image of John Noble celebrating his goal. I have noticed in the past that when a player is visually featured on the site, it is often a sign that he will play.

Article in the AFL website referencing Dean is also talking to Noble playing. It states: "The coach also confirmed running defender John Noble would face the Giants after being one of the hard-luck stories of Collingwood's premiership"
So we know Dean and Noble are in, we can start to consider who else makes it. Many would have had Howe in their team - so Dean a straight swap. Not sure who Noble comes in for. Perhaps Pendles misses too and Crisp plays more midfield and Noble goes to HBF? Could he play on Toby Bedford?

Great news for Charlie Dean. Good luck to him.
As for Noble being in, that's a poor selection.
Anyways - we move on.

Noble presents us with greater speed and versatility in defence.
The speed and defensive pressure of GWS small forwards Brent Daniels (172cm/75kg) and Toby Bedford (179cm/75kg) were a key part to GWS surge in 2023.
Darcy Jones (175cm 70kg) pick #21 in the 2022 draft, is set to be added to the mix after missing the 2023 after his ACL injury, while arguably the biggest shock on draft night last year was the Giants using pick #12 on Phoenix Gothard (179cm/72kg), another quick and dangerous small forward.

Neither Jones nor Gothard are playing.
As for Daniels and Bedford - IQ and Markov can play on them with Maynard as required.
Noble's selection may keep out Fin or Reef which would be a backwards step.

But wow, two man team? they pushed us to within a point in a Prelim.
I have GWS as faves going into this....given i think we will be rusty coming off a shorter pre-season. |
Nailed it. GWS are a lot of things, but a two-man team is not something I would describe them as. I wouldn't even have Hogan in their top half dozen players. |
Some tip Tom Green for this year's Brownlow.
As for faves, GWS have been faves the whole pre-season. And they're getting shorter... Right now,
GWS 1.67
Collingwood 2.23.

Doubt it. They're not the same position.
And not convinced Markov is actually better than Johnny.

Teams out. Macrae on the emergency list along with Frampton and Harrison
Dean in. Noble in. Johnson in.
We know no Howe. Pendles names.
Tough side to break into for Fin Macrae even after that preseason
