I thought we may have just gone with one ruckman this week in favour of Karnezis or another genuine midfielder.

As it is we've replaced like with like.

Hopefully Adams will get a full game in the guts to see what he can offer.

The problem with having so much depth is that every week I'm left with wanting to see another 6 players or so on display in the seniors.

Good changes. At least one of Adams, Thomas or Kennedy needed to play, and for me, if Adams is playing Ball needs to be rested. So good changes. We need to give the younger players responsibility when we can, it's the only way they can show enough to replace the incumbents. Adams has his chance, let's see if he can take it.

Will have to, surely. He's our only specialist extractor. This is a great opportunity for him with neither Ball or Thomas playing. I doubt it's by accident either, the club are giving him the responsibility and giving him a chance to prove his case.

I'm sure Adams will do well, this is the role he's built for. The question will be whether he overtakes Ball this year or is more of a backup till next season. How he performs when given opportunities like this week will decide that.

Hope Adams is better this time than he was against Joel Selwood - he was thrashed in that game.

Absolutely rapt to see Adams selected in place of Ball.

No disrespect to Ball, who helped win us a flag and is as courageous as they come, but his time is up me thinks. Adams is the future and right now provides a faster and better version of the Luke Ball we have all admired. What we are witnessing is the passing of the baton. Remember, this happened midway through 2010, when Lockyer, Fraser and O'Bree were dropped, never to play senior footy again. who knows, maybe Luke Ball will fight his way back in to the team, but I honestly hope that Adams thrives playing in the guts for us and this keeps Ball out.

I know who I'd want in the trenches at finals time this year if it's Ball v Adams.

I hope Adams bangs the door down but writing off Ball is way too premature.

When has Witts at Etihad ever worked? Too top heavy for the basketball stadium for my liking. We need another runner. Saints' ruck sticks aren't their strength.

Yep, was a perfect opportunity to see how we go with having one main ruck with White as a back up but the match committee continues to be ultra conservative.
And Adams better do something against the weakest midfield in the league.

Collingwood
B: Nick Maxwell, Jack Frost, Alan Toovey
HB: Marley Williams, Lachlan Keeffe, Tyson Goldsack
C: Dane Swan, Brent Macaffer, Heritier Lumumba
HF: Taylor Adams, Jesse White, Steele Sidebottom
F: Jarrod Witts, Travis Cloke, Jamie Elliott
Foll: Brodie Grundy, Dayne Beams, Scott Pendlebury
Int: Alex Fasolo, Jarryd Blair, Clinton Young, Tom Langdon
Emg: Sam Dwyer, Josh Thomas, Paul Seedsman

So by my reckoning if you were to breakdown our side in terms of positions this would be it.

Defenders:
Maxwell, Frost, Toovey, Williams, Keeffe, Langdon (6)

Utilities:
Goldsack, O'Brien, Young (3)

Midfielders:
Swan, Adams, Sidebottom, Beams, Pendlebury (5)

Tagger:
Macaffer (1)

Midfield/forwards:
Blair (1)

Forwards:
White, Cloke, Elliott, Fasolo (4)

Ruckmen:
Grundy, Witts (2)

PK stiff to miss. Still think these next 3 games are the ideal time to test 1 ruck + White and have an extra forward. Meh.

I guess we still might make a late change but that hasn't been the norm for us this season.

Seedsman listed as an emergency ahead of Karnezis is interesting given he probably has less match conditioning.

Agree we're lacking a bit of x-factor. Love to see Broomhead, Seedsman and Karnezis getting games soon because I think they more than any of the other guys not in the senior side bring that.

Not that I disagree with your comments Daz but don't you think that Adams brings an X factor?

Mind you I'm the one who suggested well before the season that Adams should spend at least half the season in the VFL getting used to the Collingwood game plan and playing style (and got howled down for having that opinion) but I still believe he brings an X factor to the team as well.

Ball has no X-Factor either

He won a flag for us Dave. Show a little respect! Evil or Very Mad
