Something wrong with Pendles?? Reminded me of McGuane in the mid 90’s in that game where he couldn’t kick due to a groin injury

We look so much better in the midfield with Sier in there instead of Beams.

agree. I regret that I neglected to mention Travis Varcoe in any of my comments. I had thought he might be omitted for this game, so kept my eye on him. He did plenty of magical pressure acts which don't get captured in the stats, but made possible several of our attacks. His pressure and running is fantastic. i have not watched him closely enough and simply accepted uncritically the criticism that has been levelled at him here. Strong game by TV, and holds his position in the side without doubt.

Hang on, are you all sure we won by 40 points and are back to second on the ladder.
I just read the game day thread and I’m convinced we were belted in every facet of the game. I wish some clowns would read their game day ramblings back over again and then at least have the conviction to take ownership of some of their uneducated comments.

Other than that, we go to into a much needed break with a solid win.
You would take that any time. Having said that, Melbourne are absolute rubbish and it’s an eternal reminder that nothing is guaranteed from one season into the next.

I'm happy for a win but cmon guys it was Melbourne and they were woful.

im still not ready to let it all go and will keep the lid on because we need
to really clean up on our skills and execution. this season has shown us one thing only so far and that is our team defence is all that keeps us in the game.
when will we start to win centre clearances? when will we kick accurately for set shot goals? these are our Achilles heal and we need to seriously fix that up.
this list when healthy as we are should see that Geelong the giants and west coast are our only challengers but we aren't playing that way.

great game whe, stevo, jdg, moore, roughy, howe, aishy, greeny and cox.

Great win.

Some real Chicken Littles in the Game Day thread when Melbourne threatened....but this game was over by 3/4 time.

Dees would have had to have outscored us by 5 goals and there was no way we were going goalless or scoreless.

Roughy and Moore added to Howe ,Crisp and Maynard have made our defence
excellent with spells from Aish and Levi to the point that Tommy Langdon,s absence was covered—-and Shaz back at VFL and building

Believe Sier will start to improve grunt and Tay will increase that grunt

Today WHE played his best game and Cox made an impact—and JDG was -well JDG

They are still building and yet sit at two—-I’ll take that three months out

I watched him come off with about 2 minutes to play, was very slow getting to the interchange.

I was impressed with Greenwood again: not many stats to advertise him, yet his constant pressure, desperation and attack on the ball were so often critical in repulsing Melbourne attacks.

This - sets a great tone for the whole team.

Langdon not in our best 22 I reckon. Mostly due to team balance. With Roughead, Howe and Darcy we just don’t need another intercept marker in the back half and he’s 4th in line for mine. Greenwood has really cemented a backline spot I reckon too. Nothing gets past him and for his size he’s very strong overhead. Him, Crisp, Maynard and Aish today were awesome.

WPW —-I think Levi,s total pressure it the teams mantra with all having it in varied degrees and watching Varcoe and Levi today cement,s my opinion

And they aren’t alone

Look, I think that is underestimating the evenness of the competition and the unpredictability of performances due to the high, pressurized nature of the game. Melbourne should have defeated Adelaide, who then went on to defeat GWS. I just think that the skill errors we see need to be viewed in a different way. Sometimes, apparently gross skill errors are due to perceived pressure etc. Melbourne had plenty of errors today, but many of them were due to us, not just that they were rubbish. Errors are absolutely an inevitable component of the game. The major question is: what is the cause of the errors? I think tonight that we applied enough physical and psychological pressure to Melbourne to ensure that alot of their errors were due to us rather than themselves. This game for mine is a real basis for rational optimism. We looked so much better with a big bodied mid in our midfield complement; our defence is magnificent and our attack can only get better with Jamie waiting in the wings and Cox searing off the rust. A very significant win today, I thought.
