One of mine was meeting the great Ray Lindwall.

It was after a Sheffield Shield match at the Gabba, late 60s

A fellow Victorian and I got quite drunk whilst cheering the Vics on to victory. After the final ball, we headed to the players rooms. At the boundary gate, an official stopped us, asking why we should be allowed in. My mate said (lied) we knew Paul Sheahan, who was sitting with Les Joslin, outside the rooms. To our surprise, Sheahan told the official he knew us.

Inside, the two teams were having after game beers. I got all the players' autographs. I saw Lindwall, chatting to Peter Burge. Got both of them, as well. Smile Had a good chat and picked up some good tips on swing bowling from Ray.

Until Lillee & McGrath came on the scene, Ray Lindwall was an automatic first selection quick in 'all time great' teams. He was also a handy #8 bat, hitting 2 Test centuries and 5 fifties.

I won a Scrabble tournament, in '83, at Moomba.

At the after games presentation, the MC was Stan Rofe, who was a DJ on 3UZ and someone I admired and listened to, lots, as a teenager.

But my main highlight was to be presented with the trophy by the one and only KB. Smile

Before he started to speak, I leaned over and said, "I must warn you, Kev, I'm a dedicated Pies' fan" He laughed, as did the audience.

Cricket: Maxwell, Bird, Wade, Hussey, Malinga, Pietersen, White, Wright, Faulkner, Handscomb...Basically anyone that's played for the Melbourne Stars, a part from Shane Warne. When I was really young, I met Border.

F1: Norris, Russell, Raikkonen, Kubica, Giovinazzi (Most of these were for seconds, but I managed a few photos).

Basketball: Dennis Rodman. He gave me a hug too. Heaps of NBL players over the years.

NFL: Does Sav Rocca count? Laughing

WWE: Hulk Hogan... and he put my Mrs in a headlock which was the best thing ever. Rob Van Dam, Jim Duggan, Edge and Christian, Chavo Guerrero Jr, Buff Bagwell at McDonalds at Crown Casino about 2 hours before 9/11 happened, there's a story.

NHL: Caught a water taxi with Zack Kassian while he was with Vancouver. Met Eddie Lack very briefly too in Vancouver. Kirk McLean tried to help me learn to skate.

Soccer: Harry Kewell. Bloody hell he was nice too.

For some of us, it might have to be in the "before they were famous" category (and still not so famous, e.g. just middling AFL players, etc.).

RR, don't you also have a story about playing golf with Polly Farmer?

How did this work? Normal hugging technique would fail, I take it, because then your face would be buried in his groin.

Twas Moi, K. Smile

Around '62, I was on the second tee, at Queen's Park (Geelong). I noticed Polly, walking over, after playing the first. "Ok if I play through" ? he asked.

I suggested he join me, with the same warning I gave KB. He somewhat reluctantly agreed, saying, "I play pretty fast"

We played the 18. Very little chat except the great man commended me on keeping up, having noticed me using my putter as a walking stick.

I have met many jockeys and trainers . My Dad was on the committee at Yarra Glen. Plenty of footy players as was a member of the social club and Peter Crimmins and Ian Bremner had the sports shop next to Dads TAB. Met Joe Bugner at the officers mess in Vic Barracks as well as other celebrities but by far the best person I met there was Weary Dunlop.

Had a plane seat next to Gian Rooney a few years back and mey Sussie O.Neill in the QANTAS club a few years back on a sunday when only about 6 people in the place at Brisbane.

Used to have a few beers with Peter Bedford at the Rising Sun in South Melbourne.

My Dad was mates with Jack Littles wife years ago, Went to a BBQ at their place in Forest Hills and my brother who was 7 and me who was 11 had a tag team match. Me with Killer Karl Cox and Scotty with Chief Little Wolf. Me and Karl were robbed, For those who can remember her the afternoon was punctuated by an appearance of Alexandra the great 48. Who promptly did a strip. The Hawking Brothers played that day.

Jimmy White comes over here regurlarly and stays with a mate of mine. Pantsed a motormouth on the pool table one night at a bar and gave the winnings to a local orphanage. The bloke he beat saed "Who the **** are you Jimmy White' Only bloke in the bar who didn't know,

Haha. Well Chavo and I spoke about him. Disco runs a gentlemens club in Vegas these days. Maybe we should organise a trip?
