I can't remember if there's been a follow-on enforced (in Tests) since the Aussies were burnt (Tugga was the captain) by India's VVS Laxman and Rahul Dravid, in 2001.

Across the ditch: In the first Test, Windies v. Black Caps, Kane Williamson scored 251 in a declared total of 7/519. The Caps then bundled the Windies out for 138 (Southee 4/35) and Williamson enforced the follow on.

In their second innings, the Windies were 6/89 with NZ cruising to a big victory.

Since then, Jermaine Blackwood and Alzarri Joseph have added 107 for the 7th. wicket. Blackwood is 80* and Joseph, 59*.

However, NZ is still 185 ahead, with 2 days to play.

'Never rains but it pours' is rather apt, today.

Not only because drought conditions were broken (or, at least relieved, by over 100 mls of rain), here, but NZ enforced the follow-on .... again !!

The Windies were skittled for 131 with Southee & Jamison each claiming a 5fa.

Stand-in captain, Tom Latham sent them back in.

6/194 - still 135 runs from the Caps having to bat again. Campbell scored 68 and Jason Holder is 35*. Boult 3/69.

NZ completed a 2-0 series win.

............................................

Now, in the First Test against Pakistan, Pakistan won the toss and chose to field.

NZ 3/146.

The best batsman in the world, Kane Williamson, is on 58*. As usual, he had to come to the wicket very early. Latham was dismissed off the third ball of the match.

The best batsman in the world, Kane Williamson, went on to score yet another century, making 129. NZ made 431.

In reply, Pakistan are 1/30 at stumps.

cricinfo's headline last night said:

Afridi and Abbas find little reward for lovely skill
Pakistan's bowlers were splendid in Mount Maunganui, but Williamson and Taylor were just a little bit better

NZ 431 & 5/180d
Pakistan 239 & 271.

NZ won by 101 runs.

Man of the Match: Kane Williamson (of course).

An exciting finish, as NZ sealed the deal with under 5 overs to spare!

Pierik on Williamson:

"The majestic New Zealand strokemaker didn't quite deliver against India in February. His top score was 89 but it didn't matter for the home side won the series 2-0. However, his form in recent weeks has been superb. There was a 251 against the West Indies in Hamilton and a majestic 129 - the 23rd century of his Test career - in a dramatic 101-run win over Pakistan that has the Black Caps in contention to make the inaugural Test Championship final."

Your cat better **** well get itself to Sydney to play for Oz then.

WI are in a sad state, but their bowling can be threatening.

The pitches in NZ offered far more than the sterile pitches Oz has played on. Did you see how green the Hamilton pitch was?

Would you like me to try to find video of a certain player who will not be named (but whose first and last names begin with the same letter) being clean bowled for 4 runs against Pakistan on a very flat Brisbane pitch last season?

Here it is!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4eb6etx9YPw [starts at 0:58; slo-mo at 1:22]

And don't forget that the Oz pitches were so flat that the Pakistan player who clean bowled the unnamed Oz player backed up by scoring a century against Cummins and co:
