...when you’re catching up with a friend and they ask at the last minute if they can bring someone else along (who you REALLY don’t want to see)?
Sounds great!

Just realised I’m 32 years of age and I still haven’t learned to say no and/or communicate functionally with others, lol.

The funny thing is that it’s not even like you have to be blunt in situations like this – most people will interpret even the slightest tone of reluctance or hesitation as a "no". And yet we can’t even bring ourselves to do that sometimes!

Is this something everyone struggles with? Or is it just me?

Yep, it's just you.

You also haven't improved your poll selections, I didn't see an option for "Fvck no, person X is a douche, hang out with them another time"

Hesitate, mumble, shuffle your feet ...

Depending on how much you don't want to see X, just say "No, you go on your own. I don't have an time for X."

You can do it if you are pushed to it.

(I am mostly like you David, nearly all the time. But once in a long while I have to draw the line.)

Interestingly, this other person ended up bailing so I got my wish in the end. Very Happy

But yes, you would think if someone you know well *asks you a reasonable question*, there is a possible answer other than "no worries". Maybe I’ll do better next time.
