Queensland Rugby stalwart and Hall of Famer Dick Marks delivered a dated and strained introduction to Malthouse, containing old stories and racist jokes that if it did belong to any era, was long past.
Mick, clearly unimpressed, on opening said "I don't care if a player is black, brown or brindle. If he shows commitment and earns his spot, I'll welcome that player into my side"
The room, fully of Rugby die-hards went very quiet. They could clearly sense Malthouse didn't suffer fools nor the tone of the introduction and the audience clearly was embarrassed, particularly by the comments post the event. |
The most staggering thing in this whole debate is that Malthouse hasn’t been asked by the media for his opinion/thoughts on what went on from a racism and culture perspective that occurred during his tenure as senior coach. |
"Mick Malthouse, his coach at the time, immediately intervened, satisfying Davis and his family that he had a future there. Malthouse left the playing group in no doubt where he stood. The offending players were dressed down which led, unbeknownst to the coaching staff, to Davis feeling excluded by the players in the next few months."

^ I really hope that the processes this panel come up with can ensure that making a report does not result in "pay back" for the individuals concerned. The processes will hopefully ensure that all persons involved are treated with respect and empathy.
It's heartening that the current group of players and staff appear (outwardly anyway) to be enlightened regarding racism and would not a) do it in the first place and b) not exclude the person who made a report, but stand by them. Similarly, any offending parties, if there are any, also needed to be treated with understanding. |

Really the antidote to racism is to smack the offender in the mouth. It works. Ask me.
The issue of racism is trivial and funny for those who have never endured it. _________________ Formerly LeighBrownBrigade |

So you seriously think this only happens at Collingwood and not at other AFL clubs? |
Keep deflecting... At least you chose an appropriate nickname/avatar

I agree.
If Adam Goodes had only jumped the fence and punched that 13 year old girl in the face we all would've learnt an important lesson about racism. |

Don't be so naive, the AFL remains tight lipped on such a huge topic, protecting its own brand whilst the media is destroying our club.
In the EPL, the "no room for racism" movement is driven by the football federation. Eddie was foolish in going alone on this, he should have publicly acknowlegded that there is a problem and approached the AFL to stamp it out across the competition.
Then, only then could he have claimed a proud day for Collingwood as a leader to eradicate this problem. |

Yes Collingwood found themselves in a hole and Eddie decided to keep digging - long before the report was commissioned - and now we’re all suffering the consequences while everyone else looks on and says glad it’s not me. Their time will come
But naive is thinking we did everything we could to prevent this bloodbath, or couldn’t without Big Daddy Gil telling us what to do... like saying parents can’t bring their kids up right without the govt. getting involved _________________ https://forever.collingwoodfc.com.au/sav-sinks-the-dockers/ |
