Greg Chappell says Green is the "best young player I've seen since Ricky Ponting".

He sees Green as mainly a batsman and wants him in the Test team asap, before he breaks his body bowling:

"“I’ve been telling anyone who will listen for a couple of years now. I saw him a hit a couple of shots when he was 17 one day and it was obvious he was a batsman.

“You just have to pick him now before he breaks his back and he can’t play. My greatest fear about him is that everyone gets excited about his bowling and the kid can bowl, he is a rare talent there as well. But you know that if he bowls 20 to 30 overs a game for Western Australia he will break.”"

[Ponting, of course, was the last great batsman this country produced.]

That's an opinion coming from a man who coached South Oz for 5 years, never finishing better than 4th.

Maybe he's better at recognising talent than coaching. Laughing

He was a national selector, of course, how good I don't know...

Today,

Langer, on Green: "If he's passes fit he'll definitely play," he said in a media conference today.

"We're just going through the concussion protocols."

Slightly amusing symmetry in the First Test:

Green caught by Kohli (good catch);
Kohli caught by Green (pretty good catch).

"Few batsmen in recent history can have had such an appetite for runs at such a young age as Green. Just in the past 15 days, the right-hander has, in two formats and at two levels, racked up more than 650 runs, his 201 in Premier Cricket fortnight back followed by 168no and 144 in Shield and One-Day Cup matches against South Australia before today's 251."

Fine catch in the outfield diving backwards towards the boundary rope. Must have been a domestic one-day match. There is video online. (Maybe I can add the link later.)

All-rounder Green casts a giant shadow on Boxing Day

https://www.theage.com.au/sport/cricket/all-rounder-green-casts-a-giant-shadow-on-boxing-day-20211224-p59k38.html

"Ponting’s dissection of his technique on national television in Adelaide was something Green needed to “filter” through the advice of his batting mentors, including Western Australia’s Beau Casson.

“It’s interesting, because you listen to someone like Ricky and you want to take everything on board, with the successes he’s had,” he says. “So you’ve got to speak to your coaches and work out what you think you can use - you’ve got to filter it a little bit, but I thought they were really good words.

“[My set up] depends on the bowlers you face. Someone who predominantly goes with in-swing, you might come outside your crease or move more towards off stump to negate the lbw, or you can go the other way. There’s a few little things you can work on when you’re trying to see what’s more dangerous, but sometimes you’ve also got to keep it pretty simple and similar.“
...

As the most arresting allrounder Australia have produced in decades, Cameron Green is going to win a lot of games for his country. As many as Ponting and Lee? Time will tell."

Still going much better with ball than bat.

cricinfo called his batting yesterday "robotic".

Oz's last great batsman, Ricky Ponting, said in commentary yesterday he noticed a few technical changes Green had made, but he needs to work out how to score off the back foot. (Ponting was one of Green's childhood heroes. And of course Greg Chappell reckons Green's the best young batting talent since Ponting.)

Brettig, The Age:

"Between Adelaide and Melbourne he had clearly thought deeply about his stance, and revealed a move to something more side-on and less open than what he showed in the first two Tests. Against England’s seam, Green got well across, covered the movement and for the most part met difficult deliveries with a straight bat and a keen eye."
