There is almost nothing I won't eat. Well done Stui, you've posted a recipe for "almost".

Lamb roast is in the oven with Garlic and fresh Rosemary from the garden.

Got spuds, sweet potato and butternut pumpkin to go in as well, and the veges in the steamer are carrots, beans, zucchini, brussel sprouts, silver beet, broccoli and cauliflower.

Roast was great, had a second helping last night from the leftovers.

Breakfast isn't dinner but it is a meal and I made a schmick breaky this morning. basically a cooked breaky bowl with a bunch of different items arranged in a wide shallow bowl.

2 Scrambled eggs with some silverbeet, mushrooms, cherry tomatoes, onions and zucchini cooked in the pan with butter and olive oil, half an avocado and some olives and feta. Fkn brilliant. Low carb, good fats and fkn tasty

Thai green chicken curry with cauliflower rice.

Old girl did a taste test and complained about the heat, I tasted and thought it needed more chili.

I've never used Uber Eats, I've never used Uber.

Anyway, did a beef and black bean stir fry for dinner. Chopped a choko up into thin slices, it held its shape and added some good texture, Nice and crunchy.

Did a roast beef in the air fryer during the week.

I call it an air fryer but it's really more of a convection oven, even has a rotisserie bit. So got a marinated 1.5kg piece of beef, stuck the spike through the middle and cooked it on 170 with fan for bit less than 2 hours. Came out medium well but still real tender and juicy.

Couple of bits of potato and sweet potato in the bottom and steamed veg on the side. Bloody yum.

I've found I'm eating in general less meat at dinner time. Working from home most days, I make up a big container of salad at home and keep that in the fridge.
Generally it's a mix of Spinach, cherry tomatoes, sliced radish, cucumber, onion, celery, capsicum.

Then at lunchtime, I tip about 2, 2/12 cups of that into a large bowl, add some olives, half an Avo, a hard boiled egg, pickled jalapenos, cheese and leftover cooked meat of whatever's there, cut into bite size pieces.

Some days I pack it into 2 wraps. 1 with meat, one with the egg and avo, both with the salad.

Wash down with a large cuppa tea.

OK, so we're talking lunch not dinner, but TP told me off putting food in another thread so I'll keep it here.

Had Sunday Lunch with daughter and her partner at the Meat and Wine Co in Hawthorn East. Picked the area as it's roughly half way between where we live.

Oh Yum.

Great service, great food. Loved it.

Had the shared entree for starters.

Szechuan Calamari, Bruschetta, Short Rib Croquettes and Boerewors

There was also some rectangle of lightly fried mash potato. All of it was brilliant. Daughter had never tried calamari before, but the crumb on this was sensational so we talked her into giving it a go and she quite liked it.

For the main, I had the grass fed rump with salad, Mum and the Daughter each had the half rack of pork ribs with chips (and ate about half each) and her Partner had a skewer of Salmon. They bring it out with this contraption with a stand, bowl of chips at the bottom, and a 45cm steel skewer of 3cm cubes of Salmon hanging down vertically over the chips.

Had to laugh at the daughter, she basically ate her weeks quota of meat at one sitting and was close to food coma.

Rolled pork shoulder on the rotisserie in the convection oven. Small bit of potato and sweet potato with it but mostly steamed veges.

lamb and Eggplant.

Lebanese inspired, some forequarter chops halved, whole eggplant diced, onion, garlic, some zucchini and capsicum, chickpeas.

Cover the meat liberally in my home made Lebanese 7 spice mix, brown every thing in the big dutch oven then chuck it all in together with some beef stock, red wine and tinned tomatoes, bring to a boil and simmer for 3 hours.

Seriously Yum

Up in Darwin, mum was with me and she has pretty basic tastes. She avoids fancy stuff or stuff she doesn't know, so we didn't get funky with food, but I thought I'd share a few of the seriously special dishes I ate up there. For the near future, Darwin may be the only option for a holiday, they have some seriously good food if you know where to look. In no particular order:

1. Hotel Darwin. Great pub tucker, great service. My default option. https://www.thehoteldarwin.com.au/

2. Pepperberry at the Hilton, conveniently across the road from the Hotel Darwin. This is a serious restaurant at Melbourne pub prices. I had the grilled Barra, crispy skin and an emulsion of mango and stuff, with kipfler spuds and broccolini. Just yum. Mum had slow cooked beef cheek with sweet potato mash. https://www.facebook.com/pepperberryrestaurant really top tucker and service

3. Vue restaurant at the Darwin casino. I had a sous vide skippy salad with mango and it was seriously yum. I'd never tried souse vide stuff before but this was good. The meat was sliced thin, slightly cooked round the outside and warm raw for the rest and it was as tasty as. deadset yum.
https://www.mindilbeachcasinoresort.com.au/restaurants/the-vue

4. Wildcard, but the Deck Bar, also just across the road from the Hotel Darwin, but everything tastes good after a jug of Sangria. https://www.thedeckbar.com.au/

5. Wildcard 2. The Boat Shed at Cullen Bay. You want a toasted ham cheese and tomato sandwich and a coffee? Can do. You want a Prawn Salad with Avo and mango that should be on the menu in heaven? This is your joint. https://www.tripadvisor.com.au/Restaurant_Review-g255066-d2317399-Reviews-The_Boatshed_Coffee_House-Darwin_Top_End_Northern_Territory.html

Yeah I know we're in lockdown, but it can't be forever. Get up there if/when you can. It's fkn great.

FFS are people living off takeaway?

Mum likes a bit of corned beef and up in Darwin she had a Reuben sandwich for the first time in her life and loved it. So when I did the grocery shopping I grabbed a corned silverside and let her cook it today, her way.

Then after work today I walked to the local IGA and grabbed some Rye Bread, Sauerkraut and Swiss Cheese, so Corned Beef and Veges for dinner tonight and Reuben's for lunch tomorrow. Very Happy

Not living on takeaway in the DB house.

I have been trying out new recipes in the DB test kitchen with a willing taste test team.

Most of them are from Good Food in The Age.
Bonus is it is not paywalled so no subscription needed.

Recipes by Adam Liaw and Katrina Meyanik I’ve found to be good. Also a couple by Neil Perry.
