Massive thumbs up.
Another bit of criticism to Seven, is they show events that are replays but the top right says "Live and Free". And they act like it's live TV. "We're going to cross to..." but that even ended already.
That or you flick it on and you can't tell if its a replay or live... That mostly happened with the swimming. ... |
Swimming finals were in the mornings, starting 11.30am. (It's all about US broadcaster's money.)
The glamour track finals (100m, 200m) are at night. e.g. the 100m men's final will be in 20 minutes, the same time as the 100m women's final last night. |

Great night for Italy at the track.
Shared gold in the men's high jump.
Then 100m men's gold to Jacobs in a PB of 9.80s. In a very open field post-Bolt, all place-getters posted PBs. Two GB sprinters were DQed for false starts, one in the SFs, one in the F. |

Channel 7 suck.
"Live & Free" on the screen, when in fact they're showing events after they've ended. Which is fine, but they shouldn't be advertising that it's being shown live.
I guess if people don't realise, it doesn't matter.
But track cycling right now for example. Australia finished their ride 40 minutes ago when the news was ending. The BMX yesterday another one, I watched it live and saw both heats, then they showed it on 7 with "we're going to cross over to the BMX".... yeah except it ended 40 minutes earlier....

Peter Bol ran a great race but didn't have the legs in the last 60m and finished 4th in the 800m.
Genevieve Gregson unfortunately ruptured her achilles at the last water jump in the final of the 3000m steeplechase.
Two runners qualified for the womens 1500m final, Jessica Hull and Linden Hall. Hull set a national record (previously held by Hall) to qualify.
Gold to the Aussies in the sailing bringing our tally to 15 gold.
Bronze in the womens 10km open water swim and mens cycling teams pursuit. Good recovery for the cycling boys after one of them crashed in a qualifying race when their handle bars fell off!
Decathlon - Ashley Moloney on track for a medal. Currently in 2nd spot.
Hockey - Kookaburras play in the gold medal match against Belgium tonight. Hockeyroos lost in the qtr finals against India.
Soccer - Matildas play the USA for the bronze medal tonight after their loss to Sweden & USA surprise loss to Canada.
Basketball - Boomers play the USA this afternoon for a spot in the gold medal match. They will have to be at their best after a couple of patchy performances and the US have found a bit of form. Opals lost to the USA in the qtr finals. Opals just managed to scrape in to the qtrs after very ordinary performances in the preceding games.
Beach volleyball - Womens Oz team of Artacho del Solar & Clancy currently playing for a spot in the gold medal game.
Aussies competing in the canoe sprints, Modern Pentathlon, diving, Women's High Jump, mens skateboarding, track cycling & womens golf today

Equal most gold medals. As for the rest, it depends what you mean by "best".
There are now 339 events. In 1956, there were less than half that many (151). At the moment Australia has 39 medals compared with 35 at the Melbourne games. Then, it was a medal in nearly a quarter of all events. Some further medals are to be decided, of course, in Tokyo but Australia presently has 1 medal in every ninth event. |

If skateboarding and BMX were Olympic sports from when Marty McFly invented the skateboard in 1955... I could be Australias greatest ever athlete

I've used the wrong words, but yes it's our equal highest gold medal tally.
You're right about the events skewing the medal tallies as well.
