Make that 8/76. Neser with two wickets that over - both caught by Carey, standing up.

And, while I type, Lyon takes the 9th (and his 450th). 9/76. Lyon is behind only Warne and McGrath on the all-time wickets list for Australia.

Carey gets the last, off Neser. All out 77. The West Indies lost 6/39, today.

Largest ever victory margin by runs in a Test between the WIndies and Australia, apparently.

Who will be in the Oz attack for Brisbane ?

Cummins will come in.

*Being Brisbane, will Neser keep his spot ? A possibility is for him to replace Green at #6, as he's recently scored a Shield century. Has 2 tons and 13 fifties in first class cricket, averaging an impressive 25.40

Starc is a given. As is Lyon.

If Hazlewood is declared fit and is selected, who would make way ?

Boland could miss, even counting his superb early Test record: 21 wickets @ 10.33 from 4 Tests.

*Green is an obvious Test player, at least potentially. Time for a rest ? Had looked a little jaded, lately.

"A record catching haul by keeper Alex Carey and another historic milestone for spinner Nathan Lyon crowned Australia's 419-run win which completed a one-sided clean sweep over West Indies in the NRMA Insurance Series.

Carey's six catches saw him join keeping predecessors Wally Grout, Rod Marsh, Ian Healy and Brad Haddin as holders of the benchmark for most dismissals in a Test innings by an Australia stumper.

But more impressive than the raw total was the manner in which they were achieved, with Carey taking three stunning grabs in the final overs of the West Indies innings which ended at a paltry 77, having lost their final four batters for the addition of eight runs this afternoon."

CA.

Carey's 9 dismissals for the Test is second only to Gilly's 10. (think Braddin and Rod Marsh, too. Checking)

^ He took a few ridiculously good catches, standing up to the stumps of the medium pacer.

But his Sheffield Shield average is under 40!! Test batting is much easier than Sheffield Sheild batting. How sad. Sad

Yawnnnnn. Cracked record.

You should check the Shield performances/averages of some famous Aussie players. Shall I start you off ?

S Waugh
S Warne
G McGrath

All were initially selected ... on potential.

Nope.

First, Warne was a leggie... We all know leggies take a lotta time.

Waugh needs a post all of his own. The 1st half of his international career, his ODI form covered up for his Test struggles. Then it reversed. Before his ODI dumping, his Test form covered up for his ODI struggles.

BUT the most important thing is:

They did not struggle in the Sheffield Shield AFTER they made it big in the Test arena. Marny has struggled just as much in the Sheffield Shield in the last 3 years. At the same time, he's scored centuries for fun in Tests.

Marny is clearly Oz's best batsman. But his Shield struggles show he should not be scoring so easily in Tests. It's cos the Oz pitches are dead. Shameful.

BTW... Tendulkar's son just scored a century on 1st-class debut...

We know what you think, howsoever vacuous it may be. It isn't improved by repetition.

Geoff Lawson:

"Let’s try a hypothetical. If you were playing the West Indies in Perth, would you rather face Michael Holding from the river end at the WACA with the Fremantle Doctor howling over his left shoulder, or would you prefer taking on Roston Chase lobbing up straight breaks?"

(SMH)

Sadly, it's even worse than that... When Oz's best batsman, Marnus, was at the crease with FTB Smith in the second innings, the WIndies were bowling Chase at one end and Brathwaite at the other. How sad... Sad

^ Smith's career Test average against the West Indies is 150.4. Amongst all players in the history of Test cricket, the next best career-average by a player who batted in 10 or more innings against the West Indies is almost 50 fewer (101.16). Even then, Mohammad Yousuf's average against them tells the usual tale of batsmen who play a lot on the (actually) flat pitches of the sub-continent - average of 133 against them in Pakistan, 90 in the UAE and 69.75 in the West Indies. Smith, on the other hand - as in everything about his career - is exceptional wherever he plays. In this case, he averages 156.33 against them at home and "just" 141.5 against them in the West Indies.

This is what happens when you dish up atrociously flat pitches... All the bowlers break down. Sad

Generalisation which is not necessarily the case. Otherwise every single bowler who ever toured the sub continent full of flat pitches would have broken down. Sometimes this is a factor but it’s not a given.

Not just Roach and Cummins...

After that post, also Hazlewood & too many WIndies bowlers to remember without looking up. Sheesh... The WIndies were forced to select a bowler who was formerly a wicketkeeper-batsman! Shocked

I can't remember the last time a touring side to Oz had their first-choice bowling attack. (BTW, Archer is finally making his comeback from injury.) Oz managed to lose to India playing literally their 3rd XI bowling attack in Brissy (i.e. their first 8 or 9 bowlers injured). Embarassed

You talk about the subcontinent. There they can choose 2 or 3 spinners who can bowl 40 overs an innings each without breaking down. Can't do that in Oz.

e.g. NZ v. Pakistan, 2nd Test: NZ played 3 spinners... Looked like it worked pretty well. Almost got the victory.

Ajaz Patel 3/88 (17) & 0/32 (7) --- bit expensive both innings!
Michael Bracewell 0/87 (26) & 4/75 (20)
Ish Sodhi 3/95 (27) & 2/59 (18 )
