I think you missed the point here champ.. Question was who has been the most impressive - answer Elliot... To which I agree.. His defence pressure is second to none for Collingwood.. Fasolo is a highlight reel and just doesn't do the team thing....yet... |
Wheatley is just creating hypothetical discussion from a few facts most that stand out like dog balls.
fact: Jamie has shown some good form and skill,
hypothetical: "can put pressure on Blairy for midfield forward role"
total crap: midfield role (has never played midfield for the AFL side ... NAB cup or regular)
Wheatley knows his job and like Robbo love drawing °conclusions° hypothetically on a few facts. Wait for MaClure and Kingy tonight!!! |

Josh Thomas is the one more likely to put pressure on Blair and Fasolo for a midfield spot throughout the season IMO.

Not all small players need to be midfielders, there's room for specialist small forwards.
Elliot seems to me to be a small forward first and foremost. I think it was Dermie who made the comment during the last NAB cup game that it wouldn't surprise him to know that Elliot had played as a key forward in his early junior footy as he knew where to run and how to position his body like a key forward. (assumption being that as others grew past him in height he had to become a small forward)
That also fits with his lack of crumbing nouse that he is working on. He's a key forward in a small body, which will make him more than a handful for small defenders as he gets his confidence and timing going.
I like the kid.
At this stage of the season there are only so many names you would pencil in as sure to get a game if fit. There's a number up for grabs and with our depth I don't expect us to play the same 22 many weeks in a row.

No criticism of elliot, but I suspect that in the minds of some he may be credited with some of thomas' work. Jamie had about 8 possessions. Josh had 14 and 4 tackles in a q and 5 minutes. They look remarkably similar. Might win josh a brownlow some day  That's my theory anyway

Jumping the gun much! He hasn't at least at this stage in his career, the engine to go in the midfield. And that wont be his role in the team. Aggressive defensive forward, whilst probably playing second fiddle to Krak. His development might elevate him over the year, but any material midfield time will be at least 2 years away.

I agree with that one. He sure is going to turn a few heads.
If ya take the time to smell the roses, our list is truly awesome.
The name Elliott was not known in 2011..... it is 2013 now and he is playing an important role, its staggering.....and J.Thomas is in front of him imo, who is another young gun....what an era we are about to experience!!

- Goldsack
- Macaffer
- Elliott
We might see (1) and (2) swap places this year, particularly as Goldie is currently on the injury list and will battle to regain full fitness before mid-season.

I reckon Caff can play 3rd tall. He's a great mark for his size and would absolutely smash a 3rd defender, either offensively or defensively.
Goldy I'd like to see playing a bit further from goal as we know he can kick it 60 odd metres. Not sure about Caff's long range kicking.
So with Cloke, Lynch/Jolly, Caff, Sack, you have two positions to fill. One could be a stay at home small like Krak or Elliott, but I'd rather see both possies used to rotate the mids (via the bench if needs be). |

I agree 100% Matty that Elliot at the Moment is a Small Forward and not a Midfielder
