I'm with you Presti.

As shocking as our injury toll is, most of our missing key players are likely to be available over the next few weeks.

If we can get back Moore, De Goey, Aish, Adams, Greenwood, Wells and (obviously) Stephenson in time for the finals, then we can still win the phucking flag. Evil or Very Mad

We need to stop our collective depression and see that the galls is half full. We're here to emphasize the postive and eliminate the negative.

The massive injury toll and Stephenson's stupidity provides "us" with an opportunity. In fact a friggin' enormous opportunity.

Just I'm not too sure what the opportunity actually is. Sad

Robbo has officially declared that we cannot win the flag this year. Now that is excellent, because it means officially that there are no expectations upon us.
free from the weight of expectation, with a long and many would argue terminally debilitating injury list, circumstances have conspired to create a very similar situation to last year, when we played wild and free. I am not ruling us out yet.

The Pie fans on The Age Real Footy Podcast sound gloomy:

'"Is it conceivable that they miss the eight with 11 wins now?" said Gleeson, reflecting on Collingwood's tough patch.

"As ridiculous as it would have sounded a couple of weeks ago, they could lose to the Gold Coast this week quite reasonably.

"Collingwood has got a handful to choose from to change the team around, they're going to be as weak as they've ever been."

"They've probably got to win one game to get in (the finals), by hook or by crook," Niall said.

"The way these teams are going … well, if they don't beat the Gold Coast well, all hell will break loose."'

I have suggested the 22 year old bring along his footy boots on Sunday just in case they need reinforcements Laughing

Rudeboy, I always try to be positive about our beloved Pies and I would be deliriously happy if we can even play a final, let alone win the big one!!!

The effects of injuries are two fold though - we lose the abilities and attributes of the players involved and then when they return, the team has to synchonrize together all over again. The returning players and the whole team can't just flick a switch and play optimum team football immediately. Crying or Very sad

Yep, when I calm down about the apparent lack of concern from our President about the injury toll, I will be able to see this silver lining. Thanks MTTM. Very Happy

Synchronization time will be much less than before, simply because the players by now have all the previous accumulated experience, which is greater than what they had this time last year.
Others have made the good observation that we have demonstrated strong defensive pressure, even with our depleted team, after quarter time in both recent losses. Obviously we need to find out why we are starting badly, but the blown away start should be much easier to prevent against GC!
If we can get over this one with a win, which is doable, then maybe we start getting some stars back. If luck just slightly were to turn our way, we could find ourselves suddenly roaring towards september as our players return and confidence kicks in. Some would argue that from here such a scenario is extremely unlikely: I would say, that while it is definitely not a certainty, it is much more likely than might initially be estimated.

Suns form hasn't been too bad lately. Last game lost to Essendon by 10 points, and prev 4 goals to CArlton, bot of whom woudl probably beat us in our present state.

Yes they've also had a few recent hidings but in June lost to STK and North by 4 ponts and 4 goals respectively.

So theoretically this game prob shoudl be rated 50:50 with our injuries. Esp with GC playing with increased confidence knowing we are a glorified VFL team.

On the CFC website, Tyler Brown, Levi, Wills and Goldy are all stated as being "in the mix". Given our present predicament, that could be simply changed to "in the team". Wink

^ Lol, absolutely! Would be happy with all four of those in. Greenwood in particular would be a sight for sore eyes.
