Dave, you just beat me to it. I would have thought it was the obvious answer.

Whats the best possible result after 5 rounds? ( question not for you dtm, you know the answer) Laughing

Hawks game is the toughest of the 5. Got a feeling they'll come out firing early, may fade late though. Reckon Saints are on the slide and will at least have a slow start. Dogs are a thereabouts team, will yet again not be good enough to go all the way. We have the better squad, just a matter of playing near our best.

First few games are always tough to predict. Really depends on whose up and about early.

Looking at our list and our draw there is no reason why we wont be 0-11 by the halfway mark of the year

Its good to get the so called contenders out of the way early, we will win 1-2 of those 3, so its not really a major concern, the real problem is winning the games we should win.

1. We'll be in good form but it may not translate into straight wins.

2. R1 Wink

3. The Anzac match was a nightmare day never ever to be repeated I hope.

Realistic expectations I take it? A possibility rather than a probability?

Interesting opinion but I hope you are wrong dude.

But I'm with the mob that says we will continue to improve, albeit slowly, and hit our absolute peak around 2011-2012. Whether that is still good enough to win us an AFL flag I honestly don't know and I guess in reality, no one else here does. It's all down to good luck with injuries, our young players coming on and the older players playing in top form, other current top teams declining and having the Gods on our side. All in all a BIG ask!!! It's a very tough gig indeed to win an AFL flag. So many factors have to go our way and be right on the day Rolling Eyes

And increasing the amount of AFL teams is only going to make things FAR MORE difficult.

Hence our one flag since 1958................................................ Sad

Dogs, Melb, Saints, Hawks and Essendon.

3 - 2 would be a pass.

Could see us at 4 - 1, or 2 -3 dogs will be the close one.

Hopefully Buckley has a new plan for when we vs the Dawks, as MM has no clue vs them.

Yer, agree with Loki. 3-2 would be pass. And I'd take it at this stage.

And also agree with molloymagic. don't care about margins too much. satified with a W. I should add early season form means little come finals. It's the W that elevates us on the ladder that counts. Late season form is more important IMO, building to peak in the finals with every player/system firing.

Given an instant improved list with recruitment of Jolly and Ball. Additional output to the team from the likes of Reid, Rusling, & Dawes or others stepping up. More experiance play from Wellingham, Toovey, Siddey, Beams. There is plenty of upside for us. Of course given a good run with injuries (especially with the top 15 players), i see us improving on last years performance.

However, we have a tougher fixture in playing dogs, cats, saints, and hawks twice each. Accordingly, i see us finishing near fourth again, but fourth with a stronger and more harden team not sheltered from the top sides.

Other down sides are
- Loss of Scott and gaining an inexperianced Bux. You would think it will take bux a year or so to settle and perfect his assistant roll.
-Loss of Lloyd. Seems to have had a large impact in the 'side by side' book.

If I was offerd fourth now, I'd take it, cos from fourth you can win the flag.

Too hard to predict - a lot will depend on injuries in the Pre-Season Competition I think. Also Ball and Jolly will likely take time to bed down into the team in actual match time also.

Worst case scenario would be we are 4 wins 0 loses going into ANZAC day and during a 21 gun salute all but Shane O'Bree rom the team is shot & wounded, he is then made captain of the club (for the day) but we have to forfeit the game making us 4-1.

Just kidding, but we will be 4-1.

Not sure who we are (meant) to beat but in '09', we defeated Melbourne twice, North Melb, Port, Fremantle, Richmond. We also beat Sydney twice (1/1 in Sydney), Brisbane twice (1/1 in Brisbane), Adelaide twice (1/1 in Adelaide and West Coast ( in Perth).

We also won 1/2 against Bulldogs, Essendon & Carlton.

We lost to Carlton when we had 6-8 of our best out injured and with basically no forward line.
We lost the anzac game that we had in the bag (f***ing debacle).
Our round 22 loss to Bulldogs was bad but there wasn't a heck of alot riding on it for us.

We lost to Geelong and Saints twice. Hawthorn, Bulldogs.

Adelaide (round 1) and beat them twice after that, including that final, when all the country had written us off.

Carlton and Essendon, as mentioned, we beat them on the 'return' legs!

The only teams we did not register a win against were Geelong, Saints & Hawthorn.
