Forgive me if I appear to be cynical.

The progressive membership figures have not been publicly released by the club this year as I believe they have been in the past.

We have a president who wants to announce any good news about Collingwood as soon as he can and yet we hear nothing about membership figures until this article today ?

I'd like to see when the last 10,000 memberships were sold or should I suggest given away ?

These numbers demand so many explanations! Pets we count along with three gamers, juniors, etc! The only thing that matters are the full adult single season members. No concessions either. Then let's see who is on top. The media run these stories like the propaganda bs artists they are. What a load of rubbery rubbish these figures are!

Actually the most relevant figure is the total revenue of each club gained from memberships. When reflected on the total number of membership it would give good insight into the nature of these memberships

Agreed, we have way more babies and pet dogs.

Sheer speculation. I doubt that the profile of our memberships would differ greatly from other Victorian based clubs.

The reality is unless you get a breakdown of these membership numbers in terms of categories and what one club offers compared to another or does or doesn't include in the final total it doesn't give an accurate description of how a side is faring for that season or from one year to the next.

For example we offer a 3 game membership whereas I have no idea if all teams do.

Likewise if we or another team have 5,000 people downgrade from an 11 game season ticket to that of a 3 game one it's hardly equal in terms of revenue.

Transparency is what I'd like to see.

The Pies recorded a 1.6 per cent jump in membership to go ahead of Hawthorn (75,663), Richmond (72,669) and Essendon (67,768).

Quite a few teams have 3 game memberships, the Bombers have a 6 game membership. Hawks and Roos have memberships for Tassie based fans.

Revenue will give a better indicator but each club sets their own membership prices.

The furphy re: our membership numbers are that the figures include AFLW memberships, which of course there are only 7 other clubs to compete with here, and neither Richmond, Hawthorn nor Essendon have teams in AFLW.

Does it include the netball team as well?

When I last looked at club annual reports we were a mile ahead of Richmond and Hawthorn in membership revenue. We can all forget this crap that somehow our members are not paying much. Our members provide more revenue than other clubs. Hawthorn have a stack of cheap Tas memberships and their vic membership packages are much cheaper. Richmond are just full of shit. They double count.

Nice to get some good news on our club. (unless you are in the anti-Bucks or anti-McGuire camp).

Kudos to those at he club working hard to achieve these these results.

I don't think so. I didn't see any mention of the Netball team.

The following article in The Age has us second on financial outcome at $10.4M net revenue, behind West Coast ($16.0M) and just ahead of Fremantle ($10.2M).

It also contains a graphic that illustrates the proportions of home and away, home only, reduced game and AFL/Club memberships for each club.

Thus:

"West Coast earned a staggering $16 million in net membership revenue (what clubs made once costs were subtracted) compared to Collingwood’s $10.4 million and the game’s rising financial power, Fremantle ($10.2 million). Adelaide ($7.6 million) and Geelong ($7.1 million) were fourth and fifth, ahead of closely bunched Victorian powers Hawthorn ($6.3 million), Richmond ($6.3 million), Essendon ($6.1 million) and Carlton ($6 million).

....

Collingwood’s membership earnings would be greater if the club included "walk-up" reserve seat sales – this would boost the Pies to about $13.5 million in earnings on membership/reserve seats and this does not include gate receipts, which are also a factor for most MCG tenants and clubs that play in blockbusters at the G."
