Sadly, this looks like Adelaide 2018.

We don't currently have Adelaide's '18 injury list. And our boys did not go on a dangerous torture camp over the pre-season. I don't see the similarities apart from finishing 2nd the previous year.

FFS it's round 1.

Let's see how we go in the next few weeks before writing the team off. Remember, we were 0-2 and seemingly going nowhere this time last year.

I think this is spot on!! It's a strange quirk of recent Collingwood sides, but I reckon it's true. We seem to do best with our backs against the wall.

Sure did beat ourselves. I'll ask my 14yo son whether your analogy is accurate....I know what I'm going to be thinking now whenever I see his bedroom door shut...

He was at the game and is probably too disappointed and tired to beat himself up...

That would have been less painful for some people, but we finished second. (There's a thread somewhere on whether Nicksters would prefer to lose a PF than win and lose the GF.)

Final H&A ladder position decides which of the PF losers is 3rd.
("Naturally, the loser of the Grand Final has always been declared second," the AFL helpfully tells us.)

Yep, the maggots made sure of that in the final quarter of 2018....

^ We really need to take the umpires out of the equation in GFs by having an unassailable lead. Our record in close GFs is the stuff of nightmares.

Demons, Eagles, Crows and Swans all lost games that they were expected to win.

Round 1 always produces strange results.

^ We'll have to wait and see if those results are strange.
It could just be that we are still in the AFL Window of Mediocrity (cheap premierships up for grab), which started in 2016.

We can already assume injuries will have a huge say. Sad
Doedee's snapped his ACL. Good thing the Rising Star was invisible but uninjured.

Well, I have us pencilled us in to thrash the Wiggles twice by 83 points (at the G) and 49 points (in Perth).

They were no good last year, either. There was, though, a certain wry amusement to be had last evening from seeing Yeo repeatedly caught and smashed into the turf by talentless hacks who can run a bit.

To put this into perspective, so far pretty much every favourite has lost this round, and even Richmond at times were made to look ordinary by Carlton. I don’t think we should be slitting our wrists just yet...
