This could be a match with a soccer scoreline. Nothing in it for the Bummers except pride. But they lost that years ago when they became the Dopers.

I totally agree with the people saying Port and Melbourne will be desperately trying to avoid Brisbane at the Gabba. Advantage Melbourne, as they can wait to see whether they should tank or not.

Right now the only reason Brisbane is not the hot flag favourite is their record at the G. They won't need to play again in Melbourne until GF day. So lock them in for one spot. Can we avoid the half of the draw that includes Melbourne and Carlton? That's the real question. Mind you our record against Sydney's not great either.

Picked a bad year to give up glue sniffing. Sad

Second spot and a date with Port at the MCG is much more appealing than the Demons.

Play our VFL team, rest the senior squad, and let 2 Metre Peter have his merry way with us.

I'd prefer the challenge of Melbourne first, if we get over that we are potentially in a position of playing 2 interstate sides to win a flag.

I'd spew up if the club adopted this mindset in order to avoid Melbourne.

Play to win with your best available side.

(We need to see how Cox goes by himself in the ruck - did not get to see that last week....)

I'd be tempted to give Cameron a run in the VFL (are they playing this week?).

Cox has done well as the solo ruckman in the past. In round 9 this year against GWS he had 19 disposals, 9 marks, 2 goals and 10/10 coaches votes.

Agree. That’s also offering up even more players who wouldn’t have played footy for at least THREE weeks ( when you include Moore and McCreery and maybe Hill and Murph ) and then expecting them all to hit the ground running in the opening minutes of a qualifying final. You need everyone match fit. The only ones to be rested should be those who the medical staff would say will benefit from missing a week or two.
Besides, even if we “ aimed “ for second, we have no control over who finishes in third spot anyway. Could end up being the Dees and for that, then all we’ve done is given the Bombers a positive end of season story. Why would any Collingwood supporter wish that.

McReery soft but thats the AFL nowadays - Thanks BT. Might be good for him but its a long break before the first final.

Cant see us losing to Essendon who have nothing to play for so probably top spot and Melbourne at the G.

Wait thats too positive.

Essendon by 6 goals.

It's a nothing game, the future will only remember what is done in the finals.

It's finals, have to be good enough to beat anyone, doesn't't matter where or who.

Dogs just lost to WC. Obviously, the opponent doesn't matter if YOU are not good enough on the day.

Not thinking too much if some players had 1 or 2 or 3 weeks off.
There is an argument which says the niggles are rested, and they are rearing to go.

From Monday leading into the first final they will all train together, they are like slot cars when it comes to being ready for game day.

No injuries or major collisions, hoping they come out as healthy as possible after the Essendon game.

Dont give a shit whom we play first off, Port or Deeees. We lost to Melb last time minus six of our best players, and the flu, in very close match, which we almost won. Beat Port over there, on their pissing ground, after being behind. We can beat both of these prick teams, lets demolish Essendoper, freshen up, reload, and win our way to the Prelim. Final.

Two certain outs in McCreery and Ryan, with Murphy a maybe depending on how he pulls up, and De Goey and Hill presumably back in if they're okay (as well as Cox moving into the starting 22).

Selection is likely to be a bit more complicated than that, though, as it still leaves one or two spaces in defence to fill and perhaps a tall to come out somewhere for Cox. I can't quite imagine the Howe experiment coming to an end for a near dead rubber Round 24 match, so it's hard to see any other option than bringing Ruscoe in. Perhaps McInnes gets a chance to play midfield too if De Goey still isn't right.

Our team selection seems better with injuries. I think Fly is struggling to find the best 23 when all players are available.

Look for the AFL to accuse us of tanking for draft choices.

“They’ve lost their edge. I back Craig McRae to have that return, to find a way to motivate this group. And then the faithful get involved. There is no roar like a Collingwood roar, Gerard.”

^ McRae retired in 2004, his playing days are over. The last VFL Captain / Coach was Charlie Sutton in 1954. Despite our recent form he's not the answer.
We have one player called Markov.
Carmichael didn't sign his player contract like that.
McInnes isn't Mississippi, it's not that hard.
C'mon '90, you've had all year to get these right.

It's like the 12th Man player name practice before the series.
