He works hard off the ball as well - lots of pressure and defensive running. _________________ I think therefore I think - I think |

That would be a huge bonus, because he's certainly talented. Confidence in his body could really take him up a gear or two. _________________ In the end the rain comes down, washes clean the streets of a blue sky town.

Every club’s Burning Q
First test for bold trade and draft calls as footy’s finally back:
Magpies’ burning question: Are the youngsters ready for more responsibility?
A few Collingwood younger players have put their hands up for more senior opportunities in 2024 as the reigning premiers consider turning to their next crop.
So, who’s ready for more responsibility? Finlay Macrae shined in the club’s intra-club match and would a veteran midfield with an injection of youth it may need from a long-term perspective. Meanwhile Dan McStay’s ACL injury has opened up a key-position spot, with Reef McInnes, who’s also impressed over the pre-season, and Ash Johnson considered to be in the mix. Such names will get their first real chance against proper competition to boost their prospects of a Round 1 berth.

Some excerpts...
Roos stun Pies as exciting Clarko era on show; star explodes, recruits shine in big R1 claims
For the Magpies, Reef McInnes and Ash Johnson pressed their claims to fill the club’s key forward role with three goals apiece in impressive showings, while recruit Lachie Schultz and Bobby Hill also had some exciting moments.
Collingwood was putting enormous speed on the ball with its trademark run down the centre, while dominating the clearance, with Reef McInnes kicking its second major of the day.
McInnes, like Lipinski, added a second goal for the Pies to consolidate his strong pre-season as he looks to fill the key forward void left by Dan McStay.
Pies recruit Lachie Schultz laid a crunching tackle on Bigoa Nyuon to show the black and white faithful what he’s going to bring to the table in 2024.
Hill set up the Pies’ first goal via Patrick Lipinski — with Fox Footy commentator Ben Waterworth noting the 2023 Norm Smith Medalist had been an early “headache” for the Roos and was causing “a lot of problems.”
Hill continued his hot start with Collingwood’s third goal, while Melbourne AFLW star Lily Mithen noted on Fox Footy De Goey was “owning the corridor” in the opening period. Nick Daicos was also prolific through the midfield.
A slick no-look handball from Hill set up a running Finlay Macrae goal from distance to cap off a high-scoring opening term, with the Pies leading 6.4 (40) to 4.4 (28 ).
Collingwood SSP signing Lachie Sullivan produced a strong fourth term including kicking a long-range goal — just the Pies’ second for the quarter.

No.2 pick stars, Larkey kicks a bag as young Roos upstage Pies
Reef McInnes kicked a couple of first-quarter goals and had some decent moments, but Ash Johnson was the pick of the forwards fighting for that spot, hitting the scoreboard with a couple of goals and a handful of strong grabs.
Jordan De Goey and Isaac Quaynor were dominant across the first half before sitting out the second half, alongside Josh Daicos who put a frustrating start to the year behind him by showing no signs of the calf concern that has limited his training load in 2024.
Patrick Lipinski also banked a strong block before half-time, kicking two goals to continue his strong pre-season form after his 2023 campaign was impacted by two shoulder reconstructions.
Only 12 of the 23 who played in Collingwood's Grand Final win over Brisbane last September featured on Wednesday, with most players on managed minutes. Veterans Scott Pendlebury, Steele Sidebottom, Jeremy Howe and Brody Mihocek all didn't play, but are expected to feature against Richmond next week.

It's a practice match and not even the head coach was coaching. North is at least a month block ahead of Collingwood as far as training goes and it showed. Sullivan wants to play Seniors. Krueger looked good without half a medical surgery of tape around his shoulders. Shultz will be a massive in. The Great Barrier looks bigger to me this year. Some slick movement around the ground. All in all, it was a solid session. North's inclusions make them look better and in saying that it's a practice match. |
