Brownlow medalist, two time All Australian, won his third best and fairest award in 2021, was still Hawthorns leading possession winner this season.

He might not be a direct ruck replacement for Grundy but it's hard to argue he hasn't been operating closer to his peak output than Brodie in recent seasons.

Welcome Tom.

Now win us a clearance.

Taking Mitchell is a short term decision. He is past his prime (thats why Hawthorn are prepared to let him go). How many good games left in him? 20 -30 ?
Trading him in is all about trying to snatch a flag next year while Pendlebury, Sidebottom and Howe also still have some petrol tickets left.
And who knows, we may get lucky with our injury list again next year and do it.

He averaged 5 clearance last year and Sam Mitchell refused to play him in the Middle for centre bounce.
Hes gonna be busting to get back in the guts

Dare I say that this feels a bit like the Luke Ball addition to the 2010 side ...

Good comment, but I'm hoping there's another 50-60 in him. We're entering a time in which players are getting more out of their bodies (just an opinion) due to improved science, health/medical/healing tech etc. I tend to agree he's a very smart pick up, providing he delivers of course, with regards to nabbing a flag before Pendles, Sidey, Howey go. Absolute grunt worker in the guts is what we needed this year to improve and one with experience. I like it. I think Collingwood will win the flag next year

Given that both Wright and Fly were at the Hawks until fairly recently, I think they'd have a very good idea on the worth of Mitchell. Reckon they see him as a medium term investment, for the next 4-5 yrs, which should coincide with our Premiership window.

I'm still trying to figure out exactly how this trade worked.

We lost Henry to Geebung for pick 25 but somehow got Mitchell as well, Hawthorn got a Geebung player and 2 late picks, from where?

Da Fug? Confused

I recently read the mechanics of this so called three way mega deal.
We got picks 25 and 33 from Geebung in return for Oli Henry. We used our picks 41 and 50 to get Mitchell from Hawthorn. Hawthorn got Cooper Stephens from Geebung as part of the deal. I think Hawthorn decided that they would swap Stephens for Mitchell.

Yeah, cheers, I did some research and read the same.

Seems likely Geebung rated Henry but couldn't do better than 25 and had no one to trade we wanted, so somehow a deal was orchestrated where hawthorn got what they wanted for Mitchell, couple of low picks and an inside mid, Geebung got Henry and we basically got Mitchell and 25 for Henry.

Convoluted, confusing, but I'll take it.

Kid didn't want to be here, door, arse.

Reports the Hawks to pay about half of Mitchell wage next season.

As long as one of our boys greets Ollie with a severe knock, I’ll be laughing my bloody head off!

Oh & welcome TM.
