So we shouldn’t criticise Trump because ... no-one’s perfect? Shocked

You can hear his malignant Neanderthal brain now: what can I do that costs me nothing, sinks the boot into some vulnerable group my fans hate, and causes a scene to deflect media attention that I can later use to pretend I wasn't a criminally negligent dithering denialist?

Sorry, Captain Coronavirus, you're a loser. A dangerous, deadly loser at the world's expense.

You destabilised the superpower and planet through your idiotic trade war, compulsive record-setting lying, abuse of executive custom, nepotism and appointment of half-wit relatives to serious posts, association with lowlife cons, organisational mismanagement of staff and government, unproductive and deficit soaring handouts to billionaires, idiotic deficit-soaring vanity wall, unwinding of efforts to deliver serious healthcare, record deficit soaring defense spending, love-in with Saudi Arabia, love-in with fossil fuels, love-in with the Christian Taliban and support of their war on young women, daily polarisation of society, divisive racism and calling of Mexicans rapists, embarrassing world ignorance, horrifying wind back of environmental regulations, horrifying encouragement of over-investment in the oil industry, bullying of the federal reserve, overheating of the economy, refusal to divest of conflicts of interest, refusal to comply with financial transparency expectations, obstruction of justice, encouragement of foreign interference in elections, criminal interference in markets and government contracts to punish enemies, regular embarrassing idiocy and interference in the work of federal organisations (e.g., sharpiegate), gutting of serious government bodies that protect people such as the EPA, inability to develop quality government leadership, abandoning of the Kurds as a cheap TV stunt, unprecedented deal with a single media outlet for positive coverage, daily abuse and bullying of journalists, violent war on Iran now responsible for thousands of deaths, unprecedented disreputable compulsive lying, and now denial and dithering as a killer virus spread like wildfire throughout the country.

All this coming as no surprise given your history of failed management, permanent law suits and bullying, serial bankrupting to avoid paying people back, and long record of shonky dealings and sleaze in shonky and sleazy industries, and vivid textbook malignant narcissism.

But forget all that. Captain Coronavirus once 'helped' an underage model by letting her sleep on his couch.

How did such an unstable mental case and wrecker ever get near serious office?

This piece of dog faeces is an utter disaster for the planet like George W. before him. And the scary thing is that particular dithering clueless fool was voted in twice by the same blindly devoted, grossly negligent fist wavers whose lives he only worsened.

^I've put a list together of some of his greatest hits for you above, lest you think you've considered anything like his full list of deeds. Wake up, for goodness' sake or we'll all be thrown into a spiral of war and poverty and your assets will be worth peanuts.

Watching The Project, they were interviewing Turnbull. Apparently he has a book out, and asked him about Trump. I think the question was, was he a lunatic or a genius.

Turnbull dodged the question to a degree, but said that everyone thought that the office of POTUS would have institutionalized Trump, that it hasn't is frightening and that he is extremely intelligent.

Turnbull to my knowledge has no reason to blow sunshine up Trump's arse now, even if he did he could have got away with saying he certainly isn't stupid, but to say he is extremely intelligent, from someone who's actually met him, interesting.

You know my view, I've always said he's no dunce because it takes smarts to con and manipulate that many people into paying your bills. But no, he's not even close to genius in any field. Still, that's not to discount certain strengths, such as his intuitive reasoning (which of course doesn't work at any seriously complicated level, which is one reason he wrecks things, fires people, breaks relationships, etc., when his head hurts).

His negotiation approach is embarrassingly juvenile child psychology, so there's no skill there. The skill in getting what he wants is manipulation, intimidation, threat and shamelessness. That's the real art of the shonky deal.

You're also making the mistake that chatting to someone rather than going through their consistent record is the best way of assessing their intelligence. In fact, it's the opposite because personal affect moderates judgement, not to mention Moderate Malcolm being, well, moderate, hence he skirted the matter. (Give me Moderate Malcolm in a heartbeat over these far right moon units, despite some limpidity).

But the extremely destructive mental illness here is the biggest hurdle by miles. Give me a sane and stable person of average intelligence anyday as a leader, although there is clearly an intelligence threshold. George W. was well under it and Trump, if he were normal might just be bright enough, but it's hard to tell given how mental he is.

All that really matters though is this: in practice he's clearly not bright enough or of sound enough mind for the job and needs to be dragged away by the white coats with haste.

PTID - excellent post. Moderate, sensible, evidenced, and readable. Some of your best work there.

Trump's not my son. He's a man in the most powerful position in the world. He doesn't get a participation trophy for playing nice Uncle Scrooge a few times in life, given all of the other bastardry he's been responsible for (and has consistently represented in office).

Yes, I don't think he gets an elephant stamp and a gold star for implementing a policy response that kills about 2,500 of his country's citizens every day. If anyone else did that in the US, you'd expect them to be dealt with as a mass murderer.

Yep.

They'd post videos of him on Facebook, deny that the killings ever happened, abuse the grieving families of the victims, demonstrate in the streets in his support, wear baseball caps with his name on them .....

oh wait

In addition to the turbocharged death and economic carnage caused by Captain Coronavirus' mismanagement, no amount of denialist chest beating can detract from the unprecedented loss of prestige the US has suffered under Trump.

Obama temporarily restored some semblance of dignity after the disasters of George W., but Captain Coronavirus is fast steering things back to the worst of Iraq and the GFC and beyond.

How can people be such poor judges of competence and temperament? And the present chaos is just the tip of the iceberg where his destruction of governmental capacity, stacking of important positions with clueless hacks, redirection of capital away from essential and productive activities, war on science, and alliance with the backward Christian Taliban are concerned.

Imagine when the implications of all of those erratic, negligent and outright corrupt actions start flowing through. It's a nightmare that doesn't bear thinking.

Van Badham is patchy at best. She can be outstanding on a good day, and quite dreadful on a different topic the next. Today, she has hit the nail on the head with her remarks presenting Trump with his WORST PEOPLE OF THE CORONAVIRUS CRISES Award. Aftewr various runners-up, she writes:

GRAND WINNER: President of the United States, Donald Trump

Like Boris Johnson, he ignored international warnings about the coronavirus when meaningful action could have slowed its spread. He held public rallies even while experts begged for social distancing. He’s used press conferences to attack reporters, repeat lies and push treatments that some studies now suggest may be unproven cures at the same time he’s demanded praise. He’s promoted people who don’t know what they’re doing, allowed the demotion of others who desperately do, he’s abused leaders who’ve taken responsibility for their citizens, and adamantly taken none himself. He’s talked about his TV ratings while Americans were buried in mass graves.

The only award in which he’s not competitive is one for failing to meet expectations – because nobody who’s watched Trump for five consistent minutes is surprised by this disaster at all. America outstrips the world for coronavirus infection. There have been more than 842,000 cases there. More than 46,000 Americans are dead.

Donald, you blitzed this competition. It’s your crowning achievement! Now, go put a glittering corona on your head!
