Dan is pretty straight to the word. He doesn't talk a lot of smoke and shadows behind the window.

It actually seems to me like a much more significant reduction in restrictions than followed previous lockdowns – no travel restrictions remaining, most shops and facilities open again, schools and in-person work is back. The only real vestiges of lockdown are outdoor masks and no home visits, but I expect we've only got another week of those max. Still no clue what this means for the film festival (due to start late next week), but I'm guessing that's going to be a bridge too far.

Gyms also open.

For The Ecomomy it's a Bigger Opening up after lockdown but lack of people going to houses is Strong

Yeah, the no home visitors one is interesting. On the surface it's supported by data but only if you don't understand the data.

i'd expect them to drop that fairly soon after a short period of no local cases out of isolation.

Agree that might only be for another Week as long as No New Community Cases.

Guess no Masks needed at people's homes why they are Cautious about it

5 days of hanging on the cliff to see if the NT opens up to Vic so I can go or have to cancel.

Sooner they introduce freedom for the fully vaccinated the better, the biggest problem we have isn't supply it's vaccine reluctance.

Agree that Fully Vaccinated people should not be so Tightly Lockdown but Doubt they do anything like that Until at least 50% of People are Vaccinated

But slower, like no crowds at local sport and no home visitors for two weeks minimum compared to one week last time.

But you can have 300 people outdoors, as long as there isn’t a game of footy on at the same time…🙄🙄

4 week extension to the NSW lockdown to be announced today - to August 28. The ABC is reporting it, so it is almost certainly correct.

Here's a tale of the extreme stupidity and selfishness that necessitates lockdowns and restrictions on movement:

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-07-28/queensland-coronavirus-george-thompson-fined-border-breach/100325698

Also, here's a useful explanation from the ABC about why that is. In short, lockdowns work but the earlier you introduce a hard lockdown, the better. The suggestion is that each day of delay means an extra week of lockdown. The article gently queries whether Sydney has a proper lockdown (because the "essential worker" definition is way too broad). The article also touches on the role of accident (which people happen to get infected first in a particular outbreak, in circumstances where most transmission is actually caused by a small percentage of infected people).

In Victoria, 8 new local cases. The Government says that "All new locally-acquired cases are linked to the current outbreaks, and all were in quarantine throughout their entire infectious period."
