I remember him saying that he and Buckley had apologized to each other and that was the end of it. Obviously not. Unless that was only for the "Les" thing

It was at the 2013 B&F that Harry O’Brien talked about those issues, singled out Buckley and McGuire, and said “We’ve sorted out everything”. Harry O’Brien doesn’t need an apology. He’s not Harry O’Brien any more though, he became Heretier Lumumba. Who knows what he wants. Hope he’s ok, I loved HO when he played for us.

What the hell is going on here? I heard today McGuire wants to offer life membership to this player! The ex player has every right to say what he likes and we should be able to reject anyone who criticises our Club. I will not keep putting up with people attacking my Club , my Country, my people , my values. I respect all cultures and people and utterly condemn any evidenced based passed atrocities committed on any people’s ; particularly indigenous Australians. Innocent and beautiful people they are. But one thing I won’t cop is awarding someone life membership as some sort of response to comments made from another country. Perhaps it is just a coincidence? Perhaps the timing was unrelated? I desperately hope so. Otherwise it would be one of the most distasteful and trivial responses to a very serious issue I have ever heard. Surely we can do better than this? I respect people who are proud of their culture. I love my country and won’t accept anyone attacking me for being a proud Australian and Magpies fan. I just say if you want respect then show some . Funny how it will work both ways with decent intelligent peoples. This is a very small planet we all live on. Let’s work hard to get along and make it work for everyone. Enough of the cheap shots please.

The one new thing in this article (at least new to me) was the mushrooms.

(It doesn't sound like they helped!)

I use to belong to the Australian communist party in my youth.
The current situation reminds me of a Mini Chinese Cultural Revolution.
We all need to be re educated.
And yes movies, sport. art and books need to be cleansed including sport.
Sick to death of continued cultural criticism from the puritians that includes Harry.
I quit the ACP when I grew up.
The problem I see is the current capitalist system is incapable of
promoting equality or a meaningful life to most people.
Black people in particular.
Replace it with what?????..I haven't got a clue on that.

I get what you're saying Hiss, but an apology from the club would show everyone that we've recognised the mistakes of the past and are ready to step forward.

It would be an enormous move from the club. But many will call it a PR move.

That’s right, saying sorry a while ago solved everything.

We're a football club, not a nation. No, it wont solve everything, but it is still the right thing to do.

I honestly think public apologies aren't worth the paper they're written on. They're all about club PR, and I'm not really interesting in giving a company PR advice. If they want to do something meaningful for the right reason, they should tell him they're sorry in person; anything else is theatre.

They should do both:public and private. Don’t make a fuss.... just do it.

If you watch the B& F video from 2013 it seemed clear that it was all resolved then. They had worked it out themselves and he said that in his acceptance speech.
Then he changed his mind.

But said he would like to reach out, demonstrate that the club environment has changed greatly since he left it and welcome him back into the fold.

I relate to your quandry completely masoncox. There just doesn't seem to be a system in existence now or in human history that fosters equality in all respects. Sigh.

See below you, in his speech it seemed this had occurred, and he has made it public (I don’t blame him) plus travelling to LA right now is not a great idea.

Greed and power will always thwart that unfortunately
