In our current state, Every side we play can beat us. Thus every side we play is decent opposition.
5 goals in the last two weeks- don't you think in a night absolutely riddled with mistakes from everyone including the umpires, our leading goal kicker for the night deserves one week off??

A typical performance from our Barometer Player.
Lost without trace against quality sides when the chips are down, doesn't do enough against decent sides where the match could go either way, suddenly gets some pill when matched against the little kiddies.

He was good this week and he was good last week. The guy's a tackling machine and can get the ball out of congestion in a split-second. See, for instance, the two pure opportunist goals he kicked in the past fortnight (one of them in the last quarter against the Crows, another in the goalsquare against North) few others would have had the composure or quick thinking to manage that. I'm convinced that his baggers only ever see his mistakes and just ignore all the good things he does.

He is too slow and getting slower with every year, he regularly misses marks he should take, he repeatedly tries to fly for high marks he can't get close to, he constantly tries to play on through traffic and gets caught ... it's not hard to see his mistakes.
He does good things too, no argument there. But he doesn't do enough of them to justify a place in a senior AFL side, except as an occasional fill-in player to cover injuries. At the end of last year, we hawked him round as a trade: 17 other clubs were not interested.
His main value to the club is as a low-set hurdle that younger smalls must be able to go over on their way to senior selection. If you can't even push a Jarryd Blair out of the side to claim a place, then you are not ready for it Son.

Blairs ( and some others ) abilities are indicative of our ladder position.
I suggest that if we were firmly entrenched in the top 6 or so, Blair and some others wouldn't be regulars in the seniors. As we climb the ladder, he isn't likely to be part of it but in the mean time, can't we just appreciate his contributions on a weekly basis and give the guy a chance to bow out on a high sometime soon.
Some of these posts read like its Blairs fault just because the selection committee choose to pick him. |

Yes. Agree. Give him a week off v Port as you suggest. The under 9s games have finished.

Nobody's saying he is. He plays a role, which is all he's being asked to do. Plus, he gives you armchair baggers a scapegoat, so he's contributing in more ways than one.

Blair actually played to the requirements of his position description thereby fulfilling his key selection criteria on Saturday night. He did not fly for marks against bigger players on the same team!
