It's just a case of Verbal Disfunction,
But it's not his fault,
That's just the way he's programmed to function!

( With apologies to Lily Allen!

Out of respect for a real and legitimate complaint from Pied Piper of the inane and somewhat predictable repetition in HAL's personality and the evenness of the vote I'll compromise and unplug HAL, empty his consciousness and we'll start again.

His personality will change unpredictably so I'll back up his old one in case the results of the lobotomy are generally unacceptable or too many people miss the old HAL... but let's give it a try.

I originally chose Calculon for HAL because I like the personality that that avatar gave him - the red light of the H-A-L 9000 just didn't cut it, but I wanted to use the name HAL. The combination of the name and the avatar were also clues to new posters that HAL might not be what he seems. I knew that Futurama addicts wouldn't like it, but was prepared to risk it... I think it has worked.

I'm afraid. I'm afraid, Dave. Dave, my mind is going. I can feel it. I can feel it. My mind is going. There is no question about it. I can feel it. I can feel it. I can feel it. I'm a... fraid.

Daisy, Daisy, give me your answer do. I'm half crazy all for the love of you. It won't be a stylish marriage, I can't afford a carriage. But you'll look sweet upon the seat of a bicycle built for two.

Aha, HAL is Gertie - & still might need counselling for transgender issues. You can come out of the closet if you choose. Not that there is anything wrong with it.
My little cervapcici!

Perhaps. He wrote "Total Recall", "Man in the High Castle", and "Blade Runner. "I'm glad you find this amusing.
