I thought there was a rule change that a bat that bounced up was now okay... But I think the problem here was that it bounced up before it crossed the line, so it was never grounded beyond the line. If it'd bounced up after crossing the line, it would have been fine.

Is what I said correct?

That's my understanding.

The 'catch on the boundary or 6' determination has been changed, too.

At first, those dismissals (catch the ball over the boundary and throw it back to yourself or a team mate) were illegal, by my reckoning.

Previously, as soon as the ball goes over the line, it's a four, along the ground, or a six. So, balls caught, over the boundary line, were really sixes.

I believe it was changed because it's such a spectacular piece of play.
