People seem to forget, Brodie isn’t simply just a ruckman.

He is also a prolific ball winner.

It’s like having an extra mid.

Sign him at all costs.

So is it possible to make a trade involving Grundy that would make us a better team?

No. All we would get is picks, which is great for setting us up down the track but not for making us a better team now.

If he did leave next year, that would free up heaps of room in our cap allowing us to make a play at free agents.

Classic bird in the hand though.

And you don't think we could use the picks we'd get for Grundy to trade in experienced talent from other clubs?

Remember when Geelong premiership stars took pay cuts to keep the team together so they could win more premierships (and they did).

They brought in a sub rule that ruined our 2011 advantage when Podsiadly got injured. They scrapped the rule a few years later.

Colli GAO is dominated with interchange rotations...they capped it a few years later.

They’ll probably introduce a rule that says ruckman can’t grab a ball from a stoppage to minimise congestion or something ludicrous like that.

You underestimate the ineptitude of the AFL. Heck, they re-allowed hands on the back for defenders in a marking contest (James Clement rule), which totally destroyed Cox’s potential this season after scaring defenders in 2018 cos they weren’t allowed to nudge him u der the ball with hands.

Again, you underestimate the AFL and their knee jerk, cane-toad policies.

Amen, brother. The AFL does not like our players having an advantage.

He won't get 7. That's the opening salvo. He'll get a 5 yr extension, plus next year makes 6. I hope.

WHY not give him four, with 2 more on the table, performance based, or whatever the hell the term for it they use now, Four yrs is pretty damn good, really, come on Brodie, do u really want to go to the rabble that is now the Crows, disunited and down, they wont make finals in years now. Confused

Who??

Name a player who is being discussed that is both A) good enough to be in our best 10 or so players and B) would be as valuable as Grundy?

Getting a bit sick of this hypothetical "would it be better to trade Grundy and get players or keep him" debate.

It's not supercoach, there is no-one on the market who would be as valuable.

The only example would be Jeremy Carmeron vs Grundy next year. This year there is no-one though.

He'll be at Collingwood next year and 90% sure he'll be at Collingwood beyond that.

Don’t trade him. Let him go next year.
Grundy = losing At LEAST one of Moore, JDG and Stephenson.
Ruckman are not that important, I’d rather keep the other 3.
Get a first rounder and move on.

Go back further, the put the line across the centre after Peter Moore and Gary Dempsey went WWE in a prelim.

OK. I'll take a stab at it.

Grundy for Dougal Howard, Sam Powell-Pepper & Port's first pick in the draft. That seems fair.

We'll know Friday night, if Grundy's at the Copeland or at a pub in Kew Wink
