He now needs to back it up and not go missing.

mason Cox average for 2020 is 1.4 goals per match
Jeremy Cameron average is 1.5 goals per match
Cox can ruck and he is coming off a serious injury

Defintely Cameron, he doesn't seem to be happy & may want to come home.

He is capable of kicking 60-70 goals in a season, whereas Cox can play some decent football from time to time, anyway that's what he's shown till now.

What's wrong with JDG, Cox & Cameron?

Throw in Hoskin, Mihocek & Stevo & you never know.

Although I have long been a doubter, I’m more than happy to see Cox play well, simply because it makes us a better team.
I can’t stress enough he played against boys tonight. There wasn’t an AFL experienced tall defender in GCS entire back half tonight.
His true challenge will come when he plays against experienced defenders who are stronger than him and that will now be every game between now and our last for this season.
His confidence is up and seems to have a good working relationship with DeGoey but let’s get a bigger sample size against opposition before we all start pencilling him in as an automatic selection in 2021.

Not sure what those stats have to do with consistency. Cox was excellent last night and took 7 marks. Earlier this year, he was horrible, and took 0 marks against the Hawks, and 1 against North and Essendon. At almost 60 AFL games, the gap between his best and worst has to close.

Doh!

I'm somewhat too focused on a real key position forward ☺️

Happy to be wrong and my criticism of Cox was only supposed to be constructive.

Yes he played a great game last night, but lets see him string two good games together, let alone 3 or 4.

As mentioned on here before we also have the situation where he will be playing against experienced campaigners from now on till the end of the season. So lets re evaluate in 3 or 4 games time.

Hope he smashes them but last night he played very well against boys and Ill leave it at that for now.

Happy to admit I was wrong, too. Cameron has done some good things this year and will hopefully have a big future with us, but Cox has more than earned his spot in the last couple of weeks. It's as simple as the fact that he's actually holding marks now, and his goalkicking accuracy is a real asset too.

Let’s be honest, no one would vote Cox over Jeremy Cameron! But unfortunately it’s a pipe dream when we’ve given that money to a ruckman.

I'm sure there'll be a kids book written about Cox one day...."when he was good, he was very, very good, but when he was bad, he was shizenhousen!"

Masons long goal run last night was excellent, really good, we need him up forward, he only has to knock it down too our smalls, De Goey and co, or take the occassional mark, boot the occassional goal, thats his job. Plus he takes two defenders, cos hes so big, and can ruck ok too, its all good with Cox, any comparison with Darcy, is now done and dusted, the Lanky Yank wins hands down.

I think just about every player can be accused of being inconsistent and Cox is no different. You could argue that he is more inconsistent than others but as a few posters have pointed out, Cox was returning from a recent injury that affected his sight. As long as he plays, he is bloody hard to match up on and if they double up, that theoretically leaves one of our forwards unmarked. I must admit that when he is “on” he is awesome, however he needs to play far more good games which in turn will raise his confidence levels in his undoubted ability.

J Cameron is going to Norf. D Cameron doesn’t have the mongrel that Cox has, he’s one of those “Buckley robots” some Nicksters bang on about, no personality or intensity. Wink

That’s the thing with Cox, he is so vital to our structure that even when he is having a bad game, the opposition still need to have 2 quality defenders on him

The difference comes when the coach and the team can recognise this and use other options. When we go badly is when the only game plan is bomb it long to Cox. Makes the team too predictable.

Yet when we can have him deep and allow Mihocek, WHE and JDG to roam with Stevo and Daicos we have an extremely dangerous forward line.

Mason will be even better now, in that regard, having JDG buzzing around his feet, causing big headaches for backmen.
