Purely guessing but I reckon it would have to do with trying to remove barriers for Indigenous kids to go to school. They have a hard enough time getting them to go to school and likely to get their parents to get them vaccinated.
Bit of old school affirmative action, I don't have a problem with it. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

Yet they say indigenous people have the worst health outcomes and they get a free pass on vaccinations? _________________ How would Siri know when to answer "Hey Siri" unless it is listening in to everything you say? |

Sadly, this is a real story and not something from the Bee.
Quote: | A top cancer charity has apologised for using the word 'cervix' instead of trans-friendly 'front hole.'
The Canadian Cancer Society, which is run by philanthropist Andrea Seale, acknowledged the LGBTQ+ community on a webpage dedicated to cervical cancer, under the page's 'words matter' section. |

I would have thought using such simpleton language would be more offensive. A front hole is how you might describe a cervix to a severely mentally disabled adult. _________________ Fighting against the objectification of woman. |

WTF is wrong with people. "Cervix" is the anatomically correct term for part of the vagina and female reproductive organs. Like Uterus and Ovaries.
Cervical Cancer is a thing, calling that area "front Hole" is just ridiculously childish. If a Trans woman gets offended at people using the term Cervix because she doesn't have one then her gender identification is the least of her issues and she needs psychiatric help.
Are we still allowed to refer to Penis and Testicles or is that offensive to Trans men who don't have them?

^Yes, it would be silly, but if the text quoted is correct they didn't apologise or even use the term themselves; rather, they merely acknowledged the matter, saying "You may prefer...."
I haven't seen the full original content, though. _________________ In the end the rain comes down, washes clean the streets of a blue sky town.

A few things here:
1. Always approach anything from The Daily Mail and similar publications with caution. They don't generally publish fake news, but they do try their best to manipulate people into an outraged reaction through the way they frame things. They've always done this and always will – it's a lucrative publishing model – and they're looking for easy marks. Personally, I get annoyed when people are trying to manipulate and mislead me ... don't you?
2. In this case, the screenshot in the article itself (and an archived version of the Canadian webpage) shows quite clearly that the website wasn't apologising for using the word "cervix", but rather explaining – in a literal footnote – why they chose to use it despite some transgender men being uncomfortable with the term.
3. As people often seem to when this particular genre of medical language and transgender bodies comes up, you're barking up the wrong tree here Stui: this is about trans men's terminology for their own bodies, not trans women getting offended by references to a body part they don't have. It's important to get that right because otherwise you're unfairly playing into the transphobic trope of trans people being delusional fantasists, rather than people who are very much aware of their biological reality.
4. As it happens I do think the term "front hole" sounds kinda dumb and childish; that there's sometimes too much political correctness around transgender terminology; and that mainstream health organisations perhaps need to be a little less willing to indulge every new piece of vocabulary someone posts on Tumblr (and this goes for updated pride flags too, make it stop!)
But it's important to understand what's really going on in cases like this, which is really quite simple: a) organisations trying to be responsible, inclusive and sensitive and sometimes going slightly overboard in the process; b) media organisations latching on to and spinning tiny non-stories like this in order to mock and spread prejudice about transgender people; and c) gullible people lapping up everything they read as fact. That third step is the one that we as individuals actually have control over, and I'd urge people to be a bit more responsible and critical when coming across articles like this. _________________ "Every time we witness an injustice and do not act, we train our character to be passive in its presence." – Julian Assange |

OK, Fair enough to all that, but it's still a cervix. I suppose I can understand that some Trans Men would prefer not to be reminded that they're still biologically female and have female organs, but they can still get cervical cancer or ovarian cists or cancer. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

Go back through recorded history, societies go through stages. Every dominant power reached their zenith, then fell after they reached the stage of drinking their own bathwater. Western Society is well into the final lap. May take another 100-150 years but it's inevitable. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |
