It all comes down to common sense.
In this case in my opinion it shows a complete total lack of common sense.
"time wasting". Really that was time wasting was it?
Did he address Lachie Sullivan directly looking at him directly in his eyes?
Can he be absolutely certain that Lachie heard the umpire?
Where is the benefit of the doubt?
If Lachie deliberately threw the ball away from the position then absolutely that should be time wasting.
Apparently if he leaves ball on the ground and the umpire has to walk to that position and pick the ball up off the ground - that is not time wasting. Which takes more time!
Common Sense? Not as far as I'm concerned. _________________ Go Pies!

I rewatched the footage. in the last Quarter time keepers stop the clock at ball ups etc.
when the ball up was called by the maggot the clock stops... how can someone be time wasting when time has stopped?
if they ever made a cartoon of the AFL,... this would be the umpires

If anything it’s not time wasting, it would fall under the not following the umpires instructions. When they call for the ball up they normally say “my ball” so if the players decide to pick up the ball or have it their possession they are meant to hand it to the them.I can understand the common sense part of it as it’s a stoppage and time is off so nothing is lost, watch more players leave it on the ground now.
I am more surprised not much has been said about the non goal review on IQ. _________________ Human behavioural studies suggest people who use a lot of swear words tend to be more honest & trustworthy. |

Confirmed “time wasting”.
The AFL have put out a statement but can’t seem to find it. There are a few articles posting excerpts from the statement.
This one from the AFL website: https://www.afl.com.au/news/1136678/league-ticks-off-controversial-pies-umpiring-call/amp
In a statement on Saturday, the AFL said "time-wasting" was correctly paid against Sullivan for handing the ball to another player rather than the umpire.
The league confirmed time-wasting free kicks had been paid four times previously this season. _________________ Sydney Collingwood Supporters Club

To be honest, I have no issue with the free kick being paid. Rules are rules fine...you win some..you lose some.
Some of our 'fans' have very short memories that we got a very soft free in the first quarter that landed us a goal.
What I will say is that the AFL has to be consistent with this rule. _________________ "To know nothing of events before your birth, is to forever remain a child" - Cicero (Roman Lawyer/Senator) 46 BCE. |

So did IQ really admit he lied about claiming he touched the ball? _________________ Fighting against the objectification of woman. |

Voss and Hardwick both had a go at the umpiring today. Surely we can chime in now! |

Apparently so, could have sworn it looked like his fingers went back. _________________ Human behavioural studies suggest people who use a lot of swear words tend to be more honest & trustworthy. |

Is it a fact that the clock was stopped during the time the free was given?
Surely not, if the AFL says it was time wasting. |

Yes, but that's not the point of time wasting. It can be exploited to allow a team to set themselves up. So it is still wasting time as time doesn't stop even if the official game time is stopped.
So while the decision was a unfortunate one, it wasn't incorrect. _________________ Fighting against the objectification of woman. |

Apparently, the AFL warned teams about this very topic just before the 2023 finals. If that is the case, and it has been paid four times this year, it’s something the club should have explained to players. And the free we got in the first quarter which resulted in a goal was also the kind of thing often overlooked.
This stuff happens. We were 24 points up and should have won the game but for the fact that we tried to play too safe too early and stopped attacking. |
