Third Test starts on Thursday night-friday morning in Bridgetown.

Gayle, Chanderpaul, and Best could be possible inclusions in the next test, and on the other side, McGrath will be back for the Aussies.

There's still plenty to play for with West Indies still a chance to tie the series and Australia looking for a clean sweep. Looking forward to it but the next week will be some good sleep.

Some more bad news for Clokey.

McGrath heads to Caribbean
AAP - 22 April 2003

Pace bowler Glenn McGrath is on his way back to the West Indies to re-join his Australian cricket team-mates after his cancer-stricken wife declared she wanted some normality back in her life.

McGrath returned from Australia's Caribbean tour after his wife Jane was diagnosed with secondary cancer in her hip earlier this month.

The diagnosis relates to the breast cancer she fought in 1997, when she endured six months of chemotherapy before being cleared of cancer in June 1998.

It was not originally known when or if McGrath would re-join the team in the West Indies, with Australia taking a 1-0 lead in the four-Test series.

Australia is in a commanding position midway through the second Test as it tries to retain the Frank Worrell trophy.

But McGrath's decision to re-join the team came after a specialist said his wife's condition was not as bad as first feared.

She will still undergo radiation therapy but is expected to make a full recovery.

McGrath said his wife wanted to get back to a normal routine and that meant her husband playing cricket.

"She started treatment last week and that's gone very well," McGrath told Channel Nine.

"And Jane just wants a bit of normality back in her life and for her, that's me playing cricket."

McGrath will be available for selection for the third Test starting in Bridgetown on May 1.

Interesting squad. They've brought back Jacobs but retained Baugh AND named him as keeper. What's going on there?

Surely they're not going to bat Jacobs at 7, Baugh at 8 and have only three bowlers again? Maybe Clokey can tell us.

Gayle recalled for third Test against Australia
Wisden CricInfo Staff - 26 April 2003

The West Indies selectors have recalled Chris Gayle for the third Test against Australia and announced the return to fitness of Shivnarine Chanderpaul (after knee injury), Ridley Jacobs (groin) and Jermaine Lawson (chicken pox). Wavell Hinds, Pedro Collins and David Bernard, the debutant allrounder, were dropped for the Test starting at Bridgetown, Barbados, on May 1.

Gayle, who was controversially dropped for the first two Tests, returns after West Indies were thrashed in the first Test at Georgetown (by nine wickets) and the second at Port of Spain (by 118 runs).

Gayle was axed for allegedly violating an eligibility rule that demanded playing in the West Indies domestic tournament for selection to the national side. He had missed the final featuring his Jamaican side, and instead participated in an international double-wicket tournament in St.Lucia.

Brian Lara, the captain, made the mandatory upbeat noises, saying, "My approach in the remaining matches will be very positive. I am very optimistic about our batting in the remaining matches but in the bowling we need to do some work to limit the Australians.

However, he hinted that West Indies could continue their curiously defensive strategy of playing seven specialist batsmen by saying: "One of things we do not want is to lose the next Test match, if we can get a draw it would be great, so we need to be careful who we select in the next match."

The squad 1 Chris Gayle, 2 Devon Smith, 3 Daren Ganga, 4 Brian Lara (capt), 5 Ramnaresh Sarwan, 6 Shivnarine Chanderpaul, 7 Marlon Samuels, 8 Ridley Jacobs, 9 Mervyn Dillon, 10 Vasbert Drakes, 11 Jermaine Lawson, 12 Omari Banks, 13 Carlton Baugh (wk), 14 Tino Best

MacGill peaks in time for third Test
AAP - 29 April 2003

Stuart MacGill claimed ten wickets for the match as Australia completed an impressive lead-up to Thursday's third Test with a six-wicket victory over the University of West Indies XI in Barbados.

Australia won with more than one session to spare, reaching 4-95 in its second innings after the University XI was bowled out for 162 with MacGill (5-45) completing his second five-wicket haul of the match.

MacGill ensured he would be the first spinner picked for the Test at nearby Kensington Oval as Australian selectors decided on the most suitable attack with the return of spearhead Glenn McGrath.

McGrath claimed 1-22, bowling 19 overs for the match in a solid workout before he returns to the Test arena for the first time this year as Australia tries to seal the series after winning the opening two Tests.

Captain Steve Waugh was satisfied with the performance against a University XI clearly outclassed by the tourists, despite the presence of Test batsman Chris Gayle and former Test representatives Philo Wallace and Corey Collymore.

The home team still threw some punches in the final session, claiming the wickets of Waugh (one), Andy Bichel (17), Martin Love (15) and Michael Clarke (47) as the Australians reshuffled their batting order.

Clarke batted well but his procession towards a half-century in his maiden first-class appearance for Australia ended with a sharp stumping from the bowling of guest Kenyan spinner Collins Obuya (1-24).

Brad Hogg was unbeaten on four, following his haul of 2-34 in the morning, but the left-arm wrist spinner is no certainty to retain his Test spot on Thursday as selectors consider MacGill as the support for a possible four-man pace attack.

MacGill was on a hat-trick after removing Matthew Sinclair (one) and Obuya (0) with consecutive deliveries to continue his improving performances over the tour.

The Australians will train on Wednesday at the University's Cave Hill campus in their last major hitout before the Test
