Ponting won the toss and sent Bangladesh in to bat in the first ODI in Cairns.

Brett Lee ripped through the top order as Bangladesh crashed to 4/19 and then 5/33. Lee has 4/25 from 8 overs.

Bangladesh are now 6/66 as Gillespie dismissed Tushar Imran for 28.

Darren Lehmann is certainly enjoying his cricket, lately.

He's firmly established his position in the Test team batting line up with 3 recent centuries and continues his wholehearted contributions to the ODI team.

Today he dismissed the last 4 Bangers with 3/16 from 4.1 overs and a run out. His last wicket was the top scorer, Alok Kapali (34).

Australia are chasing 148 for victory.

Australia opened with Symonds and Bevan. After Symonds (7) went early, Damien Martyn has plundered 80 from 36 balls with 14 fours and a six.

Australia is 1/122 and need another 27 runs. Martyn has the chance of notching the fastest ever century for an Aussie in ODIs.

Border and Gilchrist both have a 78 ball hundred so it's well possible.

Well, it was untill Bevo just ruined the possibility with consecutive fours. It's now 2 to win with Martyn on 90.

Marto hits the winning run as Australia win by 9 wickets. He scored 92 n.o. from 51 balls. Bevo hit 40 from 64.

I watched the end of the game and i cannot believe how selfish Bevan was. He bats like a snail and then when Martyn has a chance of getting a hundred and a rapid fire one at that he decides to hit some boundaries.

BTW anybody playing Bangladesh would find it enjoyable Wink

I agree totally with you JLC. Bevan blocks every bloody ball and then when theres a chance for his team mate to make a record breaking century he decides to hit a few fours and rob him of it. I was very dissapointed for Martyn, he'd made a boring game slightly interesting and deserved a ton.

There is more to cricket than keeping your average Bevan.

Bangladesh play purely for pride at Darwin
Lynn McConnell - August 5, 2003

Bangladesh's motivation and objectives in the last of their three one-day internationals against Australia at Darwin tomorrow have been clearly spelled out for them by their coach. Dav Whatmore has said that he was appalled by his side's play in the second match at Cairns, on a pitch that should have suited the Bangladeshis.

Whatmore said that he wasn't concerned so much about losing but about the way the loss came about, as well as the batsmen's decisions that contributed to their downfall. He admitted he could only appeal to the players' pride in the hope for improvement.

Australia, against most other teams, could have been accused of being patronising by making so many changes to its normal strategies after only one match of the series. But so distinct is the difference between the two sides that they had to do so in order to give everyone a chance to contribute, especially with the bat.

Even with those changes, which allowed Andrew Symonds and Michael Bevan to open the innings, and Damien Martyn to go up the order to No. 3, Australia were untroubled enough to win by nine wickets. In the second game, Bangladesh also didn't have to face Australia's strike bowler Jason Gillespie, who was rested for the match.

Whatmore made the point that if Bangladesh's players kept going the way they were, they could hardly have cause for complaint if they were eventually dropped. But Whatmore has said he will take another couple of months to make his judgements.

The third one-day match will have some significance for Martyn, who was born in Darwin before moving away as a child. Martyn wasn't considered for the first Test played in the city, and he said that he was looking forward to the occasion of Darwin's first one-dayer.

Sorry Donny,it is a disgrace that Australia play this team.
It would be like Beckham playing in the local comp down the road here.
Whoever organises this should take a hard look at themselves.
