Melbourne Cup barrier draw
November 1, 2003

THE Lee Freedman-trained Mummify remained equal favourite for Tuesday's Melbourne Cup despite controversy over his run in today's Mackinnon Stakes at Flemington.

Mummify is at 7-1 along with Mamool from the Godolphin stable and Makybe Diva who is trained by David Hall.

Stewards opened an inquiry into Danny Nikolic's ride on Mummify in the Mackinnon, questioning whether he had tested the horse in the straight.

Nikolic said the horse did not feel right and he felt that on that run, when he finished eighth to Casual Pass, he cannot win the Cup.

However a veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities and Freedman will have the horse tested again tomorrow.

Mummify drew well at tonight's barrier draw in gate 10 with Mamool alongside him in 11 and Makybe Diva in 15.

The Bart Cummings-trained Frightening who is at 10-1 will jump from gate four while Zagalia who is an 8-1 chance drew the outside gate in the 24-horse field.

Makybe Diva's owner has backed it to win $1 million and it's now the favourite.

Plenty of support for Bart's horse, Frightening. It's in to 5/1.

No big moves at this stage.

Frightening is firm at 5/1 and there's some money for Makybe Diva.

On course, Mamool is favourite from Makybe Diva and an easing Frightening.
