Peace for brave Baylee
Grant McArthur
April 21, 2007
ONE of the bravest and youngest faces of the Good Friday Appeal has lost her short battle with cancer.
Less than a month ago, Baylee Chester defied her pain to smile for photos and help the Royal Children's Hospital, but on Tuesday it became too much for the seven-month-old.
Parents Simone and Adam never left Baylee's side after learning of her illness in January, putting their careers on hold and even selling their dream home so they could fight it together.
But with cancers through her entire nervous system in a condition recorded in the world only four times, even the best medicos and most devoted parents couldn't save her.
"She went downhill pretty quickly over the last couple of weeks and was very sick in the end, but she went really peacefully . . . It doesn't make it any easier, but in our minds there is a little bit of solace because we know we did everything we could," Mr Chester said.
The Chesters contacted experts around the world in the hope of a cure.
"We were in the best hands with the Children's Hospital and that was confirmed by conversations with people in the United States. We couldn't have done anything more and neither could they. We all tried our best," Mr Chester said.
