1. Presti (Couldn't have won this game if Fevs had kicked a bag... made Fev look like Carlton were tanking)
2. Johnno (ditto Judd)
3. Captain Courageous!

Special mention to Cloke... I loved the look on his face when he tried to ruck the ball just before he caught it again and kicked that goal. Animal! Very Happy

3. Heath Shaw. Has really hit his stride in recent weeks. Last night was one of his best games
2. Leon Davis. 2 of the best goals I've seen for a while, and a solid game all round. Probably his best game since the first half of the season.
1. Simon Prestigiacomo. Another blanket job. Before Fev goes to sleep every night, he gets his mum to check under the bed for Prestis! Smile

It is just about impossible to give votes on a game like this and not list Machine-man Swanny with his incredible work rate, or Didak and Davis with their exquisite ball skills, but I'm doing just that and instead recognise three less obvious but no less worthy contributors.

3: Presti. A truly fantastic performance. Fevola, on his day, can kick 9 goals in a match or 4 goals in a quarter. The delivery into Carlton's 50 was of variable quality, but not nearly as bad as the commentators said. There were some great laces-out passes to Fevola, and no-one remembers them because the Human Blanket was there to spoil them every time. Not only that, but he played his usual excellent but understated role in cleaning up the ground balls and working with his mates to turn trouble into rebound, and even went for a couple of Heater-style long, bouncing runs. The only thing missing from Presti's game on Friday night was a goal to cap it off. But Presti saved half a dozen goals, and that trumps Leon's 3.4 everytime. Great game champ.

2: Lee Brown. I can't believe I'm putting the Great Spud in the votes - and for a second time now - but if he can play like that more consistently, he will be in my votes again, and the Great Spud will be second only to the Steak Knives as one of the great bargain pickups of this decade. Brown didn't have the absolute brilliance of Fevola to contest with (Fevola at his best, I mean) but he still had a good big man to beat, and he didn't just win his position: he nullified Carlton's forward thrust. With Fevola out of it (thanks Presti) Carlton's only other chance of a decent score was to go through centre-half forward and some big-man marks. Brown owned centre-half back: marking, spoiling even from impossible situations, and picking up his own possessions too. Add to that his strength and hardness in the packs, and I reckon that's two votes well and truly earned. Between them, Brown and Presti were just a brick wall.

3: Swan. I know, I know, I said I was going to honour some lesser lights, and in fact I was going to give Beams the 1 vote for a hard-running, gutsy performance full of class, and Beams deserves it, but in the end, you just can't go past Swan's amazingly consistent 4-quarter effort. He just never, ever stops running, he delivers the ball creatively and to advantage (not as well as Leon or Didak, but still well enough, and when you get it almost 40 times a night, you can do a heap of damage).

Stiff as: Beams, Wood (really held his end up amnd had a genuine go), Davis (goals), Didak (footskills), Cloke (ran and contested and tackled hard all night, should have kicked a couple more), Heater (solid as, great judgement, great run - back to his best now).

Good games also from Tooves (his best for a few weeks), Daisy (may have turned the corner now after a poor season), Pendles (slowly returning to his best), Barham (gave us pace and attack on the ball, kicked a great goal), Lockyer.

No bad players on the night. Medders isslowly getting his touch back - still got a way to go. Dawes did a bit. Johnson was good. Great team effort by all 22.

3 Swan - bobbs up everywhere just when most needed...and does it continuously.
2 Heater - could have gone to any of the other defenders but his rebound was critical.
1 Leon - provided the class when needed.
